HIGHLIGHTS
Heavy fighting just south of the Demilitarized
Zone in Quang Tri Province has been reported by ele-
ments of Operation PRAIRIE II. To the south, in
Tay Ninh Province, US troops have experienced the
first heavy fighting in Operation JUNCTION CITY, the
largest allied operation of the war.
I. The Military Situation in South Vietnam:
More than-1 Communists were reporte i e during
a 12-hour battle in northern Tay Ninh Province on
28 February (Pass. 1-3). Heavy fighting in northern-
most Quang Tri Province has endE;d (Pass . 4-5) . Viet
Cong guerrillas attacked an ARVN headquarters in
southern Bac Lieu Province (Paraa 6). U5 Marines
patrolling southeast of Da Nang killed 18 enemy sol-
diers on 28 February (Para. 7). Weekly Review of
South Vietnam battle statistics (Para. 8).
II. Political Developments in South Vietnam:
The Constituent Asse y is continuing its e ate
on the judicial branch of the future government
(Para. 1). In a recent conversation with a US Em-
bassy official, former premier Z'ran Van Huong in-
dicated that he is seriously considering running
for president (Param 2).
III, Military Developments in North Vietnam:
There is nothing of significance to report.

la Heavy fighting on 28 February between US
troops of Operation JUNCTION C:~[TY and Communis'~
troops in the long-t:.ime Viet Cong stronghold known
as War Zone "C" ended Late the same day when the
enemy forces withdrew;. Preliminary reports indicate
more than 150 Viet Cong were killed during a fierce
12-hour battle.. American casualties were Eight,
with 21 killed and ~9 ~~ounded reported
