In 1938, however, under the leadership of Llsz14 DIrdossy, the League advocated radical social reforms and opposed the conservative killlay-Horthy regime and adopted an anti-Communiq policy-which,was both pro-German and anti-Semitic. After the execution of Ba,rdossy in 1946, the League remained without a leader. The platform of the League is to establish a nationalistic, anti-Communist state in Hungary based on "democratic" principles, but with a strong central executive power. Although there are some pro-Hapsburg and pro-Horthy elements in its membership the League follows an independent policy. Its supporters in Hungary are former members of the League, former junior officers of the Hungarian Army, the middle class, the peasants, and among the workers, those who were members of the Christian Socialist Party. Abroad, those who back the League are said to be certain Allied military circles in Austria and Germany, Vatican officials, certain Poles and Yugoslays in exile: and the majority of the Hungarian PP's in Austria, Germany and Italy. ? This League is opposed in Hungary by all political parties represented in Parliament, and abroad by the Leftist emigre groups and certain of the dissident diplomats. awafevem 25X1 25X1 CON FIDENTIAL Approved For Release 2005/02/15 : CIA-RDP82-00457R000500070001-2 Approved For Release 2005/02/15 : CIA-RDP82-00457R000500070001-2 CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE GROUP The leading personalities Balla, Pal Bonczose, Dedk-Horvath, Denes Colonel Essoe, Sdndor Gombdr, Andras Hajos, Jeno Krudy, Ferenc Linder, Bela Marjay, Frigyes Miklos, Father Morvay, Ziigmond Nadas, Lajas Colonel Nagy, Jeno' Stomfai-Sitz, Jdnos Tames, Andre's i Ujpetery, Elemer Ullein-Reviczky, Antal Vajta, Ferenc veer, Tibor V4rtessy, Karoly Zilahi-Sebes, Jed 25X1 25X1 LiediNr.ALIP-1 4 in emigration are es follows: 25X1 former section chief in the Irime Ministry (DP in Austria) former Minister of Interior (DP Ebbs: Tyrol) busineesman (Ailan) former Member of Parliament (DP in Bavaria) Foreign Trade Office representative Rio de Janeiro; sonein-law of former Premier Ddrdossy former press attache, Madrid former deputy speaker of Parliament (Rome) former Minister of War, Member of Parliament; (in exili in Austria) former Cultural Attache, Lisbon Franciscan monk (Milan) former Press Attache in Stockholm (DP Austria) former Commercial Attache in Stockholm (Stockholm) former Member of Parliament (Lolzano, Italy) former Press Attache, Lisbon former Charge d'Affairet, Lisbon former envoy to Stockholm (Istanbul) journalist, formerly in Innsbruck, reported in Rome Member of Parliament, with Bela Linder to Austria in 19146.
