As you are aware,. General C. P. Cabell at my request
kindly arranged for a series of lectures on international com-
munism to be given to the members of the Inter-American Defense
Board. This series was just completed this morning and while
still fresh in my mind I want you to know how much the members
of the Inter-American Defense Board and I, personally, have en-
joyed and benefited by this program.
The entire series was extremely well-organized and
executed. The lecturers, without exception, were superior,
and the subject matter that they covered was pertinent and pre-
sented in a most stimulating manner. One by one these lectures
completed a comprehensive, although necessarily cursory review
of the entire picture presented by international communism.
I would like to congratulate and thank all of the participants
in the lecture rograrri for their individual contributions. Mr.
STATINTL was particularly helpful in his overall management
of the series. His personal interest and attention to the details are
indeed appreciated by all of us. I would also like to mention Mr.
Lyman Kirkpatrick's beautifully presented introductory lecture on
the "Intelligence Community of the United States ". The interest
within the Board that was created by this lecture was largely respon-
sible for the high degree of attendance at the subsequent discussiois.
In summary I feel that our program was very much worthwhile
and successful thanks to the interested cooperation of yourself and
members of your organization.
