MEMORANDUM FOR: Assistant Deputy Director for Science and Technology
SUBJECT : Moser article for American Heritage on "CIA and
the Cuban Missile Cris sip'
Zeke,
Don Moser of American Heritage has phoned to say he has had
his interview with Dick' Bisse an has now completed his article
except for three points. As you will recall, we have been helping him
do an historical piece on intelligence and the Cuban Missile crisis.
He wants to wind it up by Friday. His three requests:
1. In concluding the article, he would like to have a short
paragraph saying, in effect, that since 1962 we have progressed on-
ward toward new fields in technical intelligence collection. (he
does not need specifics, but if we could give him a few lines of
generalization. In other words, the U-2 was great but technology has
made great strides since.)
2. He would like to talk by phone with STAT
who I suppose was a U-2 pilot, not for technical information but
for his personal feelings, to add a little flavor to the article.
Is he still around; do we know where he might be?
3. He has conflicting information in his notes as to
whether Perk and Elmer built the "B" camera. Were they involved?
What can we do to help him on the above?
STAT,
Deputy Assistant for Pub c Attairs
