Approved SRele -00 000300110001-7 WASHINGTON TM F! S 1660 L St., N.W.-Suite 915 s Washington, DC 20036 o Tel No. 202-331-USFL November 15, 1982 Dear Washington Area Pro Football Fans: Football is the one sport that Washington area sports fans have chosen to support over the years like no other. Demand, for pro football has far exceeded the supply in the Nation's Capital -- until now. The Washington Federals are going to meet that demand, with a slightly different twist than perhaps you are used to -- pro football in the Spring at RFK Stadium! First-rate football, with some Washington favorites in the first year's starting lineup. On behalf of the United States Football League and the Federals, let us give you a progress report, as we move toward our March 6 season opener at RFK Stadium. * The Federals' coach, Ray Jauch, will be in Washington upon the conclusion of the Canadian Football League season, which, for him, will probably be November 28, the date of the CFL's Grey Cup championship game. His Winnipeg Blue Bombers finished with an 11-5 mark (no one did better). * Jauch will have plenty of talent to work with when he moves south. General Manager Dick Myers (former Redskin Assistant General Manager) already has signed over 80 players, and has a well-researched scouting report ready for the USFL's first collegiate draft in January. Among those already under contract are former Redskins Buddy Hardeman, Mike Bragg, Phill Dubois and Donnie Harris, and former University of Maryland standouts, Charlie Wysocki, Mark Manges, and Dale Castro. * It will take time to equal the NFL in resources, but not in the competitive quality of pro football. We will be pushing for excellence from day one. And remember that those who waited too long to buy Redskin season tickets, back before there even was an RFK Stadium, found themselves listening to the games on the radio when all the seats were sold. W Approved For Release 2005/06/22 : CIA-RDP85-00375R000300110001-7 Approved *Release 2005/06/22: CIA-RDP85-00000300110001-7 2 * Season tickets sales have far exceeded our expectations. We have received requests for more than 20,000 season tickets, and the mezzanine level is virtually spoken for. For information on how you can still get in on the ground floor, see the enclosed brochure. * Each of the 12 teams in the USFL has received its first payment as part of our two-network national television package. Between ABC-TV and the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN), our multi-million dollar contract calls for three nationally televised games a week during our 18-game season. Also, our league playoffs and July 17 Championship game will be viewed by millions all over America. We are looking forward to being a big part of the Washington, D.C. sports community. We want you with us as a Federals' fan. Please feel free to contact the members of the Washington Federals family for any assistance you may need. Just call us at 331-USFL. Best regards, Z. CIA-RDP85-00375R000300h10001-7 001 When my playing days with the Redskins came to a close, I wanted to stay in pro football in a capacity where I could help this country's young people. I'm extremely grateful that the Washington Federals have given me that opportunity as Director of the Federals Foundation. I also will serve as the team's Director of Player Relations. I've played in the National Football League and in the Canadian Football League, and I can tell you first hand that the United States Football League, and the Washing- ton Federals in particular, will offer you as exciting a brand of professional football as you've ever seen. LOUIS CARDINALS GAME The Redskins recently announced that, as a result of the NFLPA strike, the St. Louis Cardinals game orginally scheduled for 26 September 1982 has been rescheduled for Sunday, 2 January 1983. Ticket-holders for the 26 September game can use those tickets to attend the 2 January game. In view of the Redskins current record and their march toward the playoffs, the EAA realizes that most Redskins fans who purchased their St. Louis tickets through the EAA will desire to attend the game on 2 January. EAA ticket-holders who do not desire to attend the game on 2 January can obtain a refund by bringing their tickets to the EAA Office, IF-93 Hqs., on Thursday, 9 December 1982, and Friday, 10 December 1982. EAA will re- quire return of the tickets as proof of purchase. A separate EAA-GRAM will be issued advising ticket-holders to the four cancelled Redskins home games when they can obtain refunds for tickets purchased through EAA. On 4 September 1981, I had a discussion with John Vaughn, Ticket Manager at Wolf Trap, concerning refunds for three vouchers returned to EAA or. 24 October 1980 in the amount of $109.40. Attempts to contact Wolf Trap at that time resulted in a recorded message. No personal contact would be made. 2. The conclusion reached at our discussion was that EAA should return the refund for Joanne, Voucher #619, for two $9.00 tickets, and .Richard, Voucher #798, for four $9.00 tickets, both for cancelled performances of Tony Orlando for 15 July 1980--a total of $54.00. It was further agreed that in view of ERA's honesty in bringing this matter to Wolf Trap's atten- tion, and in the interest of good public relations, the remaining monies ($55.40) should not be refunded and would accrue to EAA. 3. A check made out to the Wolf Trap Foundation for $54.00 should be returned to Mr. Vaughn personally by me. It is suggested that this be done soonest. Attached you will find a petition signed by approximately 765 members of the Employees Activity Association, indicating their displeasure with EAA's termination of ticket sales service. The petition was circulated throughout those NFAC, DDA and DDO components which are located here in the Headquarters building. Members who signed the petition felt the discontinuation of these sales is another personal service removed from this remote building. 2. We, the undersigned, would like the ticket sales service reinstated here in the Headquarters building. To many of us, it is the primary reason for our continued membership in the EAA.
