17. I I Met with Lt. Saunders, House Armed
Services Committee Security Officer, and detailed the final arrangements for
the appearance of Messrs. Maury and Houston before the Intelligence
Subcommittee tomorrow, 9 May 1972.
18. I I Talked to Mr. Charles Andrews, Columbia
Reporting, and arranged for urity control of the transcript of the
appearance of Messrs. Maury and Houston before the Intelligence Subcommittee
tomorrow.
19. Talked to Mrs. Gerry Myers, House
Post _Office _and Civil Service Committee staff, who filled me in on tb details
of- the abortive Committee meeting on Thursday. Although 14 members were
present, two left before the meeting could be started and a quorum was not
present for conduct of business. The Hanley bill, relating to the protection
of constitutional rights of Federal employees, remains the lead item on the
agenda. Next meeting of the full Committee is scheduled for Thursday,
18 May 1972.
20.1 I I accompanied I CI Staff, to a
meeting with Representative Richard H. Ichord (D. , Mo.) concerning his
earlier request for certain classified Warren Commission documents. The
meeting with Representative Ichord was without incident. He was extremely
well disposed toward the Agency and its activities, accepted
statements and explanations concerning the documents without question, and
expressed his appreciation for the courtesy of giving him a personal
explanation as well as review of the documents. There are no followups
from the meeting. See
