In compliance with our principal legislative oversight
responsibility, the Committee on Armed Services is now making
its plans for the annual review of our national defense posture
and the Department of Defense budget for fiscal year 1980. As
has been the custom in recent years, we have commenced those
hearings with testimony from the Director of Central Intelli-
gence presenting a worldwide intelligence assessment, and we
plan a similar schedule early in 1979.
Accordingly, we would like to schedule your appearance
before the committee for that purpose on Thursday, January 25,
1979, beginning at 10:00 a.m., in Room 2118, Rayburn House
Office Building. The committee will be prepared to go into
executive session at such times as classified national security
information is under consideration.
The committee staff will be in contact with your office
to work out the arrangements.
