10. LEGISLATION Spoke w obert
Carlstrom, OMB, regarding our proposed firearms legislation. I told
Mr. Carlstrom that two words in a proposed amendment to our firearms
proposal language, which was contained in a letter to Mr. Carlstrom of
13 April 1978, had inadvertently been dropped but that they were entirely
consistent with the existing language. Mr. Carlstrom had no objection to
our including them in the final language we were preparing to forward to
the Congress with the approval. of OMB.
11. LIAISON Took a call from Murray Dry,
on the personal staff of Representative Lee H. Hamilton (D., Ind.). Dry
said that in connection with hearings to be held by the Subcommittee on
Europe and the Middle East, House Committee on International Relations,
Representative Hamilton would like to have any unclassified publications we
could make available on the subjects of terrorism, Eurocommunism, and
European governments in general or in particular. I told Mr. Dry that
we would be in further contact with him shortly. I transmitted this request
to of OLC, for handling.

13. SON Received a call from Georgia Camp,
n the office of Senator Strom Thurmond (R., S. Car. ), who requested a
briefing on the Agency for a group of constituents. Later in the day, I
advised Camp that a briefing was scheduled for 3 May, from 2:00 p. m. to
4:00 p. m. on the Hill.
14. I LIAISON Spoke with Roger Mott, on the
staff of Representative Samuel S. Stratton (D. , N. Y. ), and gave him an
unclassified rundown on the Korean plane downed in the Soviet Union. He
indicated that he would pass the information on to the Congressman and be
back in touch with us if he needed anything further.

30. LIAISON Received a call from Stan Taylor,
Senate Select Committee on Intelligence staff, who informed me that
Senator Jake Garn (R., Utah) changed his plans and had flown to Geneva
yesterday and he would, therefore, have to cancel two briefings set
for the Senator for this week. Taylor also informed me he had seen a
19 April James Reston column in the New York Times stating that the
Soviet Union was financing the Red Brigade terrorist group in Italy.
Taylor said contrary information was given to the Committee staff in a
recent briefing on terrorism in Europe and he asked for clarification.
31. LIAISON Met with Mike Epstein, Senate
Select Committee on Intelligence staff, who said he as well as others on
the Committee staff had been contacted byl who claimed
to be a former Agency employee and is now seeking work with the Committee.
Epstein asked me to verify that he had been an employee.
