Saturday - 23 April 1977
LIAISON Called Sam Hoskins on,
National Security Council staff, to advise him Committee on Intelligence actio ect
yesterday. He said that they had received the letter addressed to
the President from Chairman Daniel Inouye (D., Hawaii) but he was
a little confused by it so I explained the background of the situation
to him. I also told Hoskinson that Ted Shackley, ADDO, had a group
preparing some papers for the Director to send to the President on
this subject and read to Hoskinson parts of a draft letter I had prepared
tentatively for the President to send to Chairman Inouye in response
to his referral. Hoskinson said he thought my letter was on the right
track and he would appreciate getting something from the Director
as soon as possible on Monday since the President has an extremely
busy schedule next week. Hoskinson also LDX'd to me a copy of the
letter and proposed tatement as it was sent to the
President. Copies were distributed to: DCI, DDCI,, DDO, OGC and
IG.
