LIAISON Talked with Pat Holt, Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff. I alerted him to the National Intelligence Daily change and told him that beginning Monday, 3 May, he would be receiving the Daily instead of the Checklist. He said he was very pleased about this. I also told Holt of Bill Ashworth's, also of the Committee staff, request for an update on I la rrangement. I said if Ashworth is talking about the overall monitoring program we have nothing to do with that. I said we do have something going on with the and we would get back to Ashworth about this. He asked that we follow up with Ashworth, but he said he would like me to stop in to see him (Holt) because as he understands it what we are saying contradicts what some other people are saying. I told him I would be by. Holt said he wants to get the Director and Chairman John Sparkman (D. , Ala.) and Senator Clifford Case (R. , N. J.) together for a "Section 662" review. I said I would try to set something up soon. 2. LIAISON Scott Cohen, in the office of Senator Charles Percy (R. , Ill. ), called and said the Senator would like Mr. E. H. Knoche to come up and talk to him. He said the Senator also wants to discuss Agency activities with Mr. Knoche. Cohen suggested Tuesday or Wednesday, 4 or 5 May, at 4:00 p. m. Ashworth Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff, I called Bob Flaten, State Congressional Relations, concerning a briefing of Mr. Ashworth on an Agency activity I said Ashworth has asked us for details and I thought it best for the State Department to handle this matter. Flaten said he had already briefed Ashworth, but he had no objection to the Agency providing details since the Agency was doing the work. Flaten said he was not surprised that Ashworth contacted us because Ashworth has been designated by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to stay on top of the matter. He suggested we go up together to brief Ashworth. 25 10. BRIEFING 4 1 After checking vi215 I called George W. Ashworth, Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff, to determine his interest.
