Garner Cline, House Judiciary Committee, who told me off the record
that the Judiciary Committee will at some point be forwarding a formal
request to the Armed Services Committee for release of all Watergate
material to the Committee in their study of possible grounds for impeach-
ment of the President of the United States. John Warner, OGC,has been
advised.
2PX1 5.1 I Talked with Frank Slatinshek, Chief
Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, who told me that DOD has
been requested to return tomorrow for an additional briefing on the
Middle East crisis. He has not requested DCI attendance. I gave
'Slatins.hek a copy of the TASS report of the DCI STATSPEC
testimony of CIA actions in Chile and discussed with him the handling
of the transcript of the Director's briefing of 23 October. Slatinshek
had no question on our handling of the transcripts. I told him of the
noon time briefing of Mr. Nedzi concerning the Soviet alert of their
forces and gave him the same information that I had given to ?Nedzi earlier.
5X1 . 61 Met with Ralph Preston, House Appropriations
Committee, and delivered a letter of 25 October from. Charles Briggs, Director,
OPPB, concerning Agency budget. I also left with Preston a copy of the
STATSPECI TASS report of the DCI testimony on CIA actions in Chile. STATSPEC
AT! In brief, Preston was somewhat upset with OMB for the position
AT! C
taken on the Agency payroll increment. He told me he would discuss the TAT!
matter with Guy McConnell, Senate Appropriations, and talk with me further TAT!
when he has talked with Guy.

7. Met with William Hogan, House Armed
Services Committee, and gave him a draft response for use by Representative
L. C. Arends, F- I
Hogan told me that Chairman Nedzi plans a public
release of the Intelligence Subcommittee report on the Watergate hearings
next Wednesday. Copies of the release will be made available to the press
and ourselves on Tuesday. Hogan told me off the record that the matter
of review of the report by the Agency was discussed in the Subcommittee
meeting, but there, was a very strong determination by the ? Members that it
should not be?.re.lease?d to the Agency prior to final release by.the? Committee.
