MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence
SUBJECT: Foreign Service Officer Orientation
Program - 1956
1. I would like to invite you to welcome the class of
Foreign Service Officers who will attend the CIA Orientation
Program 13 through 18 June 1956. I wish to provide them with
an opportunity to meet you and to hear from you, personally,
your views concerning CIA's relations with the Department of
State, and any other matter you may want to discuss with them.
If you can accept this invitation, I shall arrange to have the
class meet in Room 119, Administration Building at 0900 hours
on Wednesday, 13 June.
2. As you may recall, this program was first given two
years ago on the recommendation of General Smith when he was
Under Secretary of State. The class this year will consist
of ten Department of State graduates of The National War College,
half of whom have been assigned to overseas missions and the
remainder to the Department. I have attached for your
information a roster of the 1956 class and a draft copy of
the program which will be essentially the same as that given
in the past two years.
