This letter shoes that the JCS prop?sal for a
national intelligence organization had found a readp
response in Secretary Forrestal, who was anxious to
"gush it vigarously.n Secretary Patterson at once asked
the chiefs of the various War Department intelligence
branches to give hin their views on the sub~eet. 73e

next succeeding paper indicates.
