3. - GLC) Security, called to say 25X1
that he had as yet not located a record of a Department of Defense clearance
on Frank Holmes, a shorthand reporter who takes the record of some
congressional hearings. Cross did locate DOD clearances on nine
employees of Holmes' reporting firm. These will be recorded for
future reference.

5. II - GLC) Called Ken Sprankle, on the House Appropriations
Committee staff, in an effort to arrange a briefing for him for a special
project clearance. Sprankle is unavailable until after Wednesday and asked
that I call him at that time.
6. I I - GLC) Met with George Murphy, of the Joint
Committee on Atomic Energy staff, and briefed him on the case of the
Ion 20 January.
Murphy and James Ramey, of the Committee staff, had raised a question
on this case at Dr. Scoville's briefing. Murphy appeared satisfied and
said he would pass the information on to Mr. Ramey.

Internal Security Subcommittee staff, an extract from an

9. JGO) In response, to a request from Jeff Burrows,
of the Bureau of the d et (code 113, extension 435), made arrangements
for Mr. Warner andBu Commo, to attend a meeting
in Room 260, BOB, on Tuesday, 1 May at 10:30 concerning S. 2361, a bill
to amend the Communications Act to authorize the licensing of alien radio
operators within the United States. Mr. Burrows advised that Senator
Barry Goldwater has been pressing the Bureau for their position so that
early congressional action might be obtained.
