Belgrade Tanjug recently announced that the plenum would, among other things, discuss proposed elections of new members to the 39-member presidium. The presidium, though technically the party's high- est executive organization, has less influence in day-to-day decisions than the 12-member executive committee that directs all party activity. The changes could shed additional light on the rivalry between Stane Dolanc, secretary of the ex- ecutive committee, and Jure Bilic, a member of the executive committee from Croatia, over who will in- herit Tito's party mantle. Dolanc is a front-running contender and Bilic is a dark horse. 25X1 25X1 February 5, 1975 25X1 Approved For Release 2004/08/25 : CIA-RDP79T00865A000300110001-7 Approved Fo Romania Pushes Computer Production Romania's fledgling computer industry will be substantially expanded during 1976-80. Five new plants will be added to the existing three, and out- put of computer equipment--computers, peripherals, and calculating equipment--is planned to grow about 32 percent a year. The Romanian computer industry is based almost entirely on Western licenses and components. The most important computer currently in production is the FELIX C-256, a medium-sized model manufactured under license from France. About 40 of these systems have been produced to date and about 30 more are planned for 1975. Production of FELIX involves, mainly, the assembly of partially finished components from France; associated peripherals are purchased from France and other Western suppliers. Romania is attempting to develop both smaller and larger versions of the FELIX that would constitute a compatible computer family. A prototype of a smaller model, the FELIX C-32, already has been constructed and could go into series production in the near future. 25X1 25X1 February 5, 1975 25X1 Approved For Release 2004/08/25 : CIA-RDP79T00865A000300110001-7 Approved For Relea~ Until recently, Romania has been uninterested in the CEMA-wide RYAD computer program, a program currently suffering from a lack of modern peripheral equipment.
