Review of IM/P Space Requt regents for Flies for the New
Headquarters Building
1. Our review of file space requirements for tm/P of'fic:s,
as listed in furmemorandum of 9 September 1955, was completed
some time ago but the report has been delayed in the -hope that
agreement could be reached with the requesting off ices. I regret
that we have not been able to reconcile the non-concurrences as
was done in the MIS end M/i erase. Our recOa ndations and the
coe nts of the respective offices are attatched for your consideration.
2. The primary point at issue in the non-concurrences Is the
ails nce for aisle space. We have used 4t as a standard for
correspondence cabinets In facing rows as compared with the 6''
requested. A review of file planning in both industry and govern-
nt offices Indicates the 41 allowance is a maximum and we estab-
lished It as a liberal standard for this initial planning. Amy
decision to change this standard would raesessitate recotation
of the r c endations for the D /S and DD}I areas previously
submitted.
3. At the request of the Chief., RI ns8
added to the 19 areas listed in your memorardue because an increase
from 5,? 0 sq. ft. to 10,000 sq. ft. was needed. A detail recomssaendae-
tion is included in the attachments. Po loving in a suawry of the
actions recommended on the areas reviewed.
