crane was also completed9 then dis~antled for transport. There are minor

Soviet tucks with various attachments, mostly crane trucks and those with
special towing apparatus are continually seen, The total number of trucks
thus equipped during April 195:3 was between 90 and 120? Material shortages
still give diffi~~u.lty9 the promised. bar acid rod stock did not arrive from
Polando It is probable: that there are financial difficulties, and earlier
deliveries have not yei, been paid for, Trouble is also being experienced
because of the large amount of rejections9 mainly because of the poor
quality of the iron used,

high quality gasoline t.o the USSR, During the same period, about 39200 tons
of het fuel with a gasoline base were produced. Several of the hydrogenate

5. At present, the Zemag~Zeitz (Zemag Eisengiesaerei u. Machinenfabrik Zeit~ der
SAG Transmasch) is working on an order of 12,000 strikers for the fabrication
of briquettes. 'three large briquette presses were delivered to the USSR ixi
April 1953. A mae;hine f'or breaking coal was observed with a measurement
. plate that bore the number 2000, An order was received from Poland for
three ahip9s winches, Eaoh month six or seven heavy flatcars are f`u.lly
overhau?Led .
6. Eaoh quarter the Zeitz VEB leather factory produces. 39500 knapsacks for the
Volkspolizei. During the last two months about 10,000 rifle slings were
produ+oed9 and the order continues. During April 1953, thirty tarpaulins for
tx?~r.cks were produced, About 50 covers for gun barrels were produced during
thH same pax?iod.
7. At the VEB Wagganbau Goerlitz during April 1953, three shop trucks were
produced on order of the Soviet Control Commission and delivered. At .
preses~'~,,work is practically limited to repair fobs, since materials axe
lacking for attainment of the planned production. Tires and axle parts
are especially short, '.ihe Riess factory cannot deliver tires before this
middle of ~'une 1953.
8. The VEB Waggont,au Bautz~~n produced four ears and two power cars for the
Warsaw suburban railroad during April 1953. Work on this order is proceed-
ing. There are no material shortages at present. The base for a heavy
railroad crane is in production; it will be delivered to ABUS Wildau. Work
~ai11 shortly begin on a new order for large refrigerator cars with extra-
heavy insulation and a ?vacuum installation. The refrigerating machinery`
wil?"L come from East Berlin.
9. Production at the Boehlitz Ehrenberg ball-bearing factory (Leipziger
Kugella,gex?fabrik DKF der SAG Trarxsmasch) during April 1953 amounted to
5009000 bearings of all types, About 809000 of these were rocker-
bearings for the USSR.
10. At the Gex?aetebau in Schc~enebeck (SAG Amo) during April 1953, 70 loading
?:uriits were produced for the IISSR. Each is equipped with a 50 hp. motor
-and mounted on a Soviet truck, ~zring the same period six units were
produced for tine Volkspolizei units in Mecklenburg and mounted on IFA
trucksa The chassis came from Halle.
l~l.. As euf ~. ~Ia.y 1953 sprocket wheels again began to be produced at the
Stahlwerk 531bitz. Beaches for lathes and other shop tools are being
prod?~.ced.
