Office Building, before CIA' a`ubcommittee of House
Armed Services Committee
i. I informed Mr. Smart that you would most with
Mr. Kilday's Subcommittee on 11 May. I asked Mr. Smart
whether there were any specific aspects of the U-2 operation
the Subcommittee would want, to dwell on. Mr. Smart said
aside from the details of the operation itself the Subcommittee
would be interested in the general aspects of the world situa-
tion which would put this operation in context. This appears
to be an opportunity to give our Subcommittee the background
establishing the need for such operations, the basis for
accepting the risks involved, and demonstration of the value
of the product received.
