The Honorable
The Attorney General
U. S. Department of Justice
Washington 25, D. C.
Dear Hr. Brownell:
I am enclosing for your information a copy of a letter I am
sending to Governor Sherman Adams,, Special Assistant to the
'resident. This letter presents information concerning the list
of names turned over to me by Governor Adams on 2 June 1955. You
will note that this is the same list that has come up repeatedly
in the past and which was also made available by General Clark to
the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In this letter I have given'a narrative of this Agency's re-
neated effort to obtain definite allegations on these persons, and
to resolve any security problems on employees who were subject to
charges without allegations.
I m also sending a copy of this letter to Mr. J. Edgar Hoover,
and wish to again express my desire that if in the opinion of the
Department of Justice or the Federal Bureau of Investigation there
are any unresolved points on any individuals, the FBI will make an
immediate and full investigation thereof. I also urge that any
future allegations which may come to your attention on these persons,
or, for that matter, on any Agency employee, be subject to the same
investigation.
This letter is written with the hope of fully disposing of this
troublesome issue, and I assure you that I have greatly appreciated
in the past the continued close cooperation of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation in bringing to our attention allegations against esm-
ployees and in investigating cases where action was required on either
a security or a loyalty basis.
Faithfully yours,
Alen W. Dulles
