Subject: Katyn Massacre Committee
1. Mr. John Mitchell, of the Katyn Massacre
Committee, called me to say that Mr. Fairfield had
been back to talk to him about the wiretapping in the
Willard Hotel. Mr. Mitchell said that b new facts
had appeared that the former CIA employee who in-
formed Mr. Fairfield is not employed by the Reporter
Magazine but was reported to be a wiretap operator
who was formerly with CIA and who now works for
local detective agencies.
2. The person tapped presumably was not
- as Mitchell previously thought, as the dates
do not coincide, but for our information Mitchell
asked if he knew and
said he was a close personal friend and
a seen him when he was here. Fairfield said
that as the witness did not appear to be one of
Mitchell's he was going over to see the McCarran
Committee about their witnesses who might have
been tapped.
