Abstract A modification of the method of Spak and Xurash ffpaak
and Kurasch?7 (Z analyt Chem, 102, 24 (1935)) have been
used for the determination of Fb(2+) in the presence of
Ba(2+). A boiling aqueous solution of Fb salt is treated
with a freshly prepared 1% solution of morcaptobenzo-
thiazole (1 gm reagent and 20 gms NH N03 in 100 ml 2.5%
NH40H) and the white precipitate vach separates out is
filtered through a 1G3 crucible, washed with NH4N03

Attention is directed to a clinical,syndrome, so far undescribed in the Hungarian
medical literature, presenting in'adolescents like appendicitis. At ope ration tile re
are enlarged hyperaemic ilcocaccal lymph nodes in addition to a normal or, at
worst, a hyperaemic appendix and oedemata of tile caccum and terminal ileum.
The histological picture corretiponds to a suppurative mesenteric lymphadenitis.
The causative agent is P. pscudotuberculosis. The disease is benign and heals
spontaneously in contrast to the rare septicaemic and frequently fatal form. The
diagnosis can be confirmed by histological examination of the excised rnesenteric
lymph glands in animals inoculated with the same material, by blood culture or by
demonstration of antibodies by agglutination tests.;

A clinical and histological study was made of 1.157 patients. chiefly with pavement
cell carcinoma. who were given radiotherapy. The eosinophilic granulocyte infiltra-
tion of the carcinoma tissue was found to be increased following irradiation. The
blood toninophil count was likewise increased. The increases were explained on the
basis of the protein bodies occurring with degeneration of the tumour cells (chemo-
taxis), which occurrence is Increased following irradiation. (V. 16)

Title On the Eosinonhilic Infiltration of Tumor Tissue.

Abstract : A study of tumor sections from 1157 patients predominantly
with so 'uwaous cell cancer and who were subjected to x-Ray
therapy, revealed a pronounced eosinophilic infiltration
of tumor stroma. An increase in blood eosinophils was
a'-so noted. The author associates eosinonhilia with an in-
crease in Drotein bodies formed during the disintegration
of ttunor -urd-~- Lhe influence of irradiation.

Among 3,097 autopsy cases, cholelithiasis was observed in 280, and among these,

cancer of the gallbladder or of the bile ducts was f und . 27 (11 e. , in nearly 10%).
The number of cases with primary cancer of a non lithiatle ga Madder or bile
duct was 8. Out of 414 surgically removed gallbladders, 77, 1. e. , 1976, contained
stones, and 4.5% of these were cancerous. In this.case materi 1, 3 cases with
primary cancer of a non-lithiatic gallbladder were found.

frostbite, was made on a patient 36 years old. A

Eleven years later folloi.-Ting the amputation, the
neuroma was removed, and a histological investiga-
tion revealed a malignant epitheloid neuriloma.
The author notes the traumatic origin of the

studied histologically and 68.2% of them showed atrophic and degenerative changes.

cysticus-stump syndrome which arose as late-complications of chole-
cystectomy carried out through a buttonhole-cut. In one case the ad-
hesions of the long eysticus-stmp clused a brea-k in the cholledocus,
in three cases, the pathological changes of the long cysticus-stump
caused the postoperative complaints. A discussion of the inadequacy

In test tubes, the authors mixed 0.5, 0.3, and 0.1 ml of a filtrate
from a Praun-j ierce cancer with (1.1 rl of a 5% suspenslon of erythrocytes
from luest animals (rabbits, guinea i igs, mice, sheep, roosters, and frc.gs)
The test tubes were kept in a thermostat at 37c'C. After 6 hours, there was
partial. lysis-'.b.f erythrocytes of white mice; after U. hours, complete hemol-
ysis; and after 24 hours, partial lysis of rabhit enthrocytes. The filtrate
did not dissolve the erythrocytes of guinea Tigs, sYeeT, and roosters. There
was no hernolysis in the controls in which a muscle -filtrate from healt~-y rab-
bits was used. Opalescence, addition of Braun-'-.erce cancer filtrate to
fresh 11urran blood serum or diluted egg yolk, indicated the Tresence of leci-

The )art played by chronic inflammation in Me pauiogencsis of cancer of the
bladicr was studicci in an experiment on 35 rabbits. One group of animals (15
rabbits) was injected with 0.5 mi- Of I% ot scarlet red emulsion in peach oil into
the muscular layer of the lower part of the anterior wall of the bladder. Two pellets
of wax and dental cement were introduced into the cavity of the bladder. Only
the pellets were used for another group of 15 rabbits, while 5 rabbits were only
injected with 10% of scarlet red emulsion. Small traumatic ulcers on the anterior
and posterior walls of the bladder were found in 2 rabbits of the first group, papillo-

mas in 4 rabbits, and a cancerous ulcer confirmed by histological examination in
one rabbit, Three out of 15 rabbits on whose bladder only pellets %vcre used develop-
ed papillomas of the bladder. Papillomas or cancer were not discovered during the
autopsy, in the 5 rabbits injected wit
h emulsion only. The experiments showed that
under certain conditions chronic inflammatory process" of the bladder may create
a basis for tumour formation.

Mhese experimenta were carried out on 55 animals which were given 8ynDestrol in-
1ramuscularly and whose prostate was examined after varying periods of tilne. In
the early stages (2-3 months) atrophy of the glandular part was noted, followed
later by cystic transformation, with subsequently (in some cases) papillomatous
proliferations in the cystic lumina. Still later. a diffuse proliferation of the
muscular and connective tissue was observed. In 3 animals a proatatic fibromyoma
