Petkov), ISUTL "Effect of Pharmacological Agents on the Elimination of 198Au" Sofia, EksperimentaIna Medit5ina i Morfologiya, Vol 5, No- 3, 1966, pp 160-165 Abstract: The effects of EDTA, dithiopropanol, sodium ethylxanthogenate, hydro- chlorothiazide (a saluretic for peroral administratio , aL-d the sodium salt of dehydrocholic acid (decholin) on the elimination of NAu were studied in mice in which this radioisotope had been injected intraperitoneally. The decrease in the total e -activity caused by injection of 196Au was measured. It was estab- lished that EDTA, dithiopropanol, and decholin increased the elimination of the radioisotope, while hydrochlorothiazide and sodium ethylxanthogenate had no ef- fect. It was found in experiments on rats that EDTA and dithiopropano-l promoted accumulation of 196AL, in the spleen, hydrochlorothiazide accelerated accumulation of 196Au in the liver, and EDTA lowered the content of 195Au in the kidneys. it was established in former work by the authors that the effect of garlic in facil- itating elimination of 198Au was also associated with increased accumulation of this radioisotope in the spleen. The results indicated that the effect of sub- stances in eliminating radioisotopes may be rendered valueless by selective ac- cumulation of the radioisotopes in some organs under the influence of these sub- stances. In an experiment with 24 rats (12 test animals and 12 controls) on the fifth day after the injection of the goldp a stati8tically significance I. er activity of the rats' spleens was found after treatment with garlic in com- parison vith the control group. These results permit the conclusion that garlic has an eliminating influence upon radioactive gcLId. The authors attempt to ex- plain this action of garlic by its content of reactive sulfuric compounds and its activatiug influence upon the reticaoendothelium. One Bulgarian reference.
