The local reservoirc are inhabited b,, over 1-0 s;,ecies ~tn,' s,,ibspecics )f fishes, incl,i,-14- --', valu,,ible on,~s, as tllie Siberian sturc_~eon, gqrdad,a salmon Species etc. in~ West 3ibei-ia yields several tens of t.-,ousands of tons yearly, and exceeded 70,000 tons in some years. The quantities would be lar-er if the protecLion of viater from pollution and melioration works viere better orgaaized. Until recently the restocl':in~~ of fish in the reservoirs of 'Nestern Siberia was aven Card 1/4 no attention. This explains tlie fact that in t~e ,30V/26-5--11-0/47 The Protection of Fishes of ',Vest Siberia 0'6'basin, where for many years the Ust'-I",amenogorsk and the Novosibirsk GES have been operating, there- by greatly disturbing the SpavminF, conditions of the sturgeon and white salmon, not a single fish-breeding, opawning and fiSh raisil, farin has been erected. In some instances eXtraord-inary measure--- are required to stop the pollul;io-. of re_-ervoi.-s. 7he author --ives particulars on the disappearance of CD fishes caused by the Omski:r neftepereGonn,~y zavod (Omsk Petroleum Refinery) which polluted the waters of the Irtysh and Ob'Rivers for hundreds of kilo- meters. In recent yea.,-s, some large plants have begun to build special cleaning installations, but numerous enterprises of the Altay an" ':uzbass, and of the cities of Omsk, Barnaul, No-josibirsk, Tomsk, etc. still discharge ;hei-- waste directly into natural waters. The author points out the prin- Card 2/4 cipal measures to be adol:ted for tae cleaning- of SOV/26-50,-3-9/47 The ProtectI.Ion of Fishes of West Siberia waters and the protection of fishes when erecting hydroelectric power stations. He mentions in this connection the Bukhtarminskaya and ShuAinskaya (Bukhtarma and Shul'baYGES and those intended to be built at the Irtysh and Ob' Rivers. The Novosi- birsk Sovnarkhoz has decided to erect a sturgeon and white salmon fish-breeding plant at the dam of the Novosibirsk GES. The Tomsk Sovnarkhoz in- tends to build a plant for breeding Coregonus maksun and Coregonus pelea in the Shegarka distrijt. The author deals with the prohibited methods of fishing,, the unlawful catching of young fishes and the winter fishing in the bays, resulting in the destruction of over 90 % of young fishes according to observations made by B.K. Moskalenko. He calls attention to the detrimental influence of natural factors (draining, freezing, salting, underfeeding, Card 3/4 parasites, etc.).In this connection he mentions JOGANZENp B,,G.; PETEMCHv A.N.) PERIODICAL: Neftyanik, 1958, Nr 8, pp 21-22 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The author states that constractive suggestions of staff members of the Starogrozneft' Admintstration have often helped t~~ solve problems connected with the general overhauling of oil wells. As an example the author cites the oase of a crew which had to overhaul a well under the supervision of their foreman Kabanenko. To test the sealing of the pipe string column in a well, it was necessary to lower the liquid level to a depth of 800 m. To force the water out of the well, it was decided to sink a special plunger equipped with a reverse valve and a number of rings made either of metal or rubberized belt. Specifications of different parts of the plunger assembly are given by the author who also describes how it Card 1/2 Pipe Plunger for Lowering the Liquid bevel (Cont.) 92-58-8-19/,~6 works and de icts its design. It takes 32 hours to lower the liquid in a 900 m column, and it takes onlY 5 1/2 hours to sink and raise the plunger under discussion in a 800-900 m column. The advantages of this method of lowering the liquid level are evident. The investigation of rock samples was conducted in a special core-holding bomb which permitted the measurement of longitudinal and shear wave velocities at axial and lateral pressures up to 1000 atm, hydrostatic pressure of 300 atm, and temperature up to 90C. The core-bolding bomb made it possible to replace pore fluids and to register the voltunetric charge of the pore spaces. The measurement was performed by the pulse method at frequencies of 500 keps. 13ased on an analysis of the experi- mental data, it was concluded that attenuation of longitudinal waves decreased with ACC NRI AT6032746 SOURCE CODE: AU'11110R: Petkevich, G.
