nies in the Ukraine; towards 1941 their num-
ber increased more than three times. During
World War II, up to 90,,.', of bee ~colonios were
destroyed. In tho postwar Deriod, the api-
culturo of the Ukritnian SSR was rapidly re-
stored and in 1957 it numbered about 2.25
million bee colonies.

Abstract Fieldexperiments established that when honeybees were vorking
on plants sprayed with 5.5% of DDT with a dose of 10 kg. per
1 ha.p the loss of collecting-bees was insignificant during
the first 2-3 days after spraying. No loss of hive-dwelling
beesy brood and queens was observed. GKhTsG preparation
does not repel honeybees.. kills the collecting-bees.. and

Abstract: The Ukrainian Scientific-Research Station of Apiculture
(Xhar'kov) established that to prevent the poisoning
of bees by the treatment of surrounding vegetation
with mereaptophos, it is sufficient to isolate the
bees during treatment and for 6-10 hours after it is
over; with use of NIUIF-100 and metaphos - for 2
days, and Heimchlorocyclohexane - for 3-4 days.

During a routine miniature Xr-ray examination, a case of diffuse lung nodulation was
found in a woman aged 44 who had worked for U years at a mill with a considerable
dustexpbsitre to the white p)gment lithopone (70% BeSO4 ; 3C% ZnS). The woman never
worked in it place with dust containing f ree silica, and a thorough clinical examinji-
tion oxclwled any other cause of nodulation. The woman fee2sr perfectly wall and the
lung fanotlLons are normal.
