unidentified Chileans had recently entered into contact with parsons in
.:a-fluential Argentine circles in an attempt to obtain Argentine aid for a
e' olutionary movement in Chile. These 'Chileans, whose names were not re<
;311Sled by Lima Quintana, stated that the revolutionary movement, would be
aided by retired Chilean General Carlos Ibanez del Campo.
The Argentine contacts of the conspirators allegedly approached the Information.
`tsction of the Argentina Presidential Office,, and these authorities asked the
opinion of Lida Quintana, who was present in Buenos Aires at tide tic. Lima
Quintana said that his advice was to stall, or put, off the Chileans' until more
could be learned.
When Lima Quintana returned to Santiago on 27 April, he immediately enterad
into contact with confidants of General Ibanez, who denied tkn-t the General
had sent emissaries to Buenos Aires to seek aid in a revolutionary attempt,,
Li Quintana stated that, faced by this negative reply,, he iniiediately sent a
message to Buenos Aires advising the government that these e&.ssariea night till
be afgents provocateurs.
