3. Action.
a. The report of the RIC and RIR-1 were approved as
amended (IAC-D-75/4). A substitute para. 49 to RIR-1 was approved
as amended. The Air Force representative requested the deletion of
AFOIN footribte._to :para. 35 of.RIB.-1, :.FOIN having withdrawn its
objections.
b. The recommendation that an NIE on anti-Communist
resistance in the Soviet Bloc be produced annually was approved
(IAC-D-75/4, 15 July, para, 3).

Request for Estimate on
Warning of Surprise Attack
5. Mr. Dulles made reference to the NSC request for an
estimate on the probable warning which the US would have of a
Soviet attack on the U. S. in mid-1957.
25X1 It was agreed, upon the suggestion of I I that such
25X1 an estimate be undertaken in the usual way and that
proceed with the preparation of terms of reference to be submitted
for review at the next IAC meeting. This estimate will supplement

DCI Briefing of NSC
6. The following matters were informally brought up during
the discussion of items of possible interest to the NSC:
a. Prospects for stability in SE Asia in the post-armistice 25X1
period.

d. Evidence of efforts by the Peiping government to
encourage overseas Chinese to be loyal to the countries in which
they live in order to lessen ties with the Chinese Nationalists.
e. The urgent need for providing means
for countering the great influence of Chinese Communist
education in the Far East.
Similar efforts in Africa and the Near East might be
undertaken. Mr. Dulles referred to the OCB report related to this
subject.
