on the high d gree of cooper aticn and effort achieved in producing
this comalet estimate on short novice,
Proposed Estimates for
Latin C marica -- ~
2. Action: Agreed to begin working-level consideration of
the four estimates proposed in the Bocr:.'s memorandum to the IAC
of 27 February 1953 (NIE-84, Guatemala; NIE-85, Chile; NIE-86,
Brazil; NIE .._. Argentina). It was understood that the proposed
target dates were tentative, and that final IAC approval well might
not be obtainable by the times suggested.

3. Mr, Dulles invited comment on the ability of the existing
machinery of the Federal intelligence system to respond to crises
such as that occasioned by the information of Stalin's illness.
There two general agreement that, in this instance, the existing
procedures wero adequate, it being noted that Agency watch officers
were promptly alerted and the President timely advised.

4. At General Porter's request, the Committee met in
executive session at the conclusion of the regular meeting. It
was agreed that the item of information he tabled would be considered
as part of the forthcoming SE-39?
