1. Dearing the current trip of Chilean Ffinieter of National Defense Barrios
Ti.rado to the north of the country, he reportedly will visit Iquique
to investigate charges of the Intendente of the Province of Tarapaca
that Mario Montero ,`_,chmidt openly encouraged the officers of the Iquique
Garrison to revolt against the government in September 1949, Montero
~:chmidt allegedly was in close and suspicious contact with Lieutenant
Colonel Jorge Garcia Giroz, Commandant cf the First Armored Detachment,
as well as with other officers of the Iquique Garrison. It is also
claimed that Montero Schmidt made frequent trips with them to Memina
-lad other places.
