Title :Concerning the Problem of the Width of the Impurity Zone
of Conductivity in Ionic Crystals.

Abstract :The method of strongly-bound electrons is used to calculate
the parameters of the impurity band in an ionic crystal. It
is proposed that the impurities form a regular cubic lattice.
By way of an individual wave function of the separate impu-
rity center, the author takes the wave function of the F-
center, which is known from the polaron theory. The author
determines the shift of the center of the band, the width of
the impurity band, and the effective mass of the correspon-
ding carriers. Numerical calculation for KCL shuws that the
metallic conductivity in this compound occurs when the impu-
rity concentration becomes on the order of several percent.

solutions matched on the boundaries and a characteristic equation
derived. The elements of the permeability-tensor are taken from D.
Polder's paper for a.saturated ferrite and from C. T. Rado's j)aper

The solution is presented of a system of partial differential equations
whdch result from the Maxwell equations for the case of a transversely
magnetized rectangular waveguide filled N-,-ith a ferrite. Expressions are
obtained for the electric and magnetic field intensity components and for the
characteristic equation.
Conditions for the existence of a solution are analyzed. The fields are not
separated into electrical and magnetic in the maveguide under consideration.
Each type of wave is characterized by one number n, equal to the number of
half-waves included between the waveguide walls orthogonal to the magnetizing
field. The fields vary according to a complex law along the lateral
coordinate perpendicular to the magnetization direction., since there are two

Usihg the eigenfunctions found, the problem 6f higher types of waves in
a rectangular waveguide with a ferrite plate is solved by the partial regions
method. The plate is placed right alongside the waveguide wali parallel to
the rmgnetizing field. The field in the part of the waveguide with an
isotropic dielectric is the sum of the usual electrical and magnetic waves.
Imposition of the boundary conditions leads to a homogeneous system of six
eauation4. A tharacteristic eQuption is obtained from the determinant of this
system of equa ions being equal to zero*

TMV: The cause of the spheroidal graphite formation as a e6stilt of the
addition of Mg and Ge to pig iron is not clear as yet. The crystallization
process was specified, the changes caused by Mg addition to the pig iron smelt
were Investigated. Mg has a close affinity to metalloids 02, N2 S, P., Its
affinity to Fe and C is very small, therefore free and bound Mg must be oonsidaed
separately. The separating heterogeneous Mg compounds, suspended in the smelt,
belong also to bound Mg. To determine free Mg by evaporation it was possible
to create certain test conditions. The result of such a test should be considmed
of a great practical importance, since it shows the interconnection between free
Mg, its surface tension and microstructure. For the spheroidal graphite forma-

tion a certain quantity of Mg (free) is necessary, Mg not only eliminates the
action of Inhibitors but affects also the crystallization of graphite. At the
evaporation point of Mg, Immediately over its melting point, the balls of
graphite situated near the surface of the bath move unimpaired upward, and at
higher temperatures thqyburst. As a r6sult of the investigation of the effect
of some inhibitors, it is established that at higher concentrations Mg and P
inhibit the process of spheroidal graphite formation. For the spheroidal
graphite formation a high surface tension of the molten iron is necessary.
This condition is necessary but not sufficient, since the direct effect of Mg
on the graphite formation must be taken Into account as well.

increased, and pilocarpina and ifisulin decreased, glyce-
mia. The reduction in the nunber of lynphocytes and
eosinophils can aerve as an indicator of adrenal fxuic-

mination of the gravitational and magnetic anomalies
in geophysical investigations

TEXT: New locations of minerals are, as a rule, discovered by in-
direct methods of geophysical prospecting. The deposits of ore, oil
and gas are found from anomalies of the gravitational field (for
ore deposits an increased gravitational field is observed, i.e. a
positive gravitatic-nal anomaly, while for deposits of oil and gas
a negative anomaly). The location of iron ore deposits is determi-
ned most simply from magnetic anomalies. It is of great importance
for the-reduction of the cost involved in sinking a shaft, or drill-
ing a well, etc. to have an accurate chart of the corresponding
isolines which makes it possible to establish the thickness of the
