ABSTRACT: The authors have exardned the relaxation of the uniform precession ot
ru6i-r,netization in a uniaxial antiferromagnetir, as a consequence of interaction
between s-oin waves and -ohonons (both acoustical and optical). They show that
the relaxation processes of creating (or absorbing) an acoustical phonon by a
spin wave, by vlztue of the law of conservation of energy and momentum, may take
place only at frequencies of

form.tion of an oxide film retards the penetration of 0. A suggested
mechanism of oxidation is'. the preliminary formation of TiN, TiC, TiBL -TiO

formation of TiIOZ or TiO.,by the diffusion of 0. Diffusion of 0 is
connected with a high energy of activation, viz. 42,900-74,640 cal./male.

PERIODICAL: Optika i'spektroakopiya, v.12, no.6, 1962, 802-803
TEXT: The influence of the type of bond structure on the
excitation of electroluminescence discussed in a previous paper
is reviewed. Calculations are made on the excitation of electro-
luminescence in alkali-halides and compared with experimental
results obtained for thin ( - 11s) films of CsI-Tl, prepai-ed-by
sublimation in a vacuum. The sublimated mixture contained
941,0 CsI and 6% TlI, A layer of alutninium formed a secondary
electrode and a film of barium titanate was u3ed as a protective
coating. Excitation was accomplished by the application of
about 120 V at 20 kc/a and the electroluminescent spectrum
compared with the luminescent spectrum excited by radiation from a
-2 (UFS-2) filter. The two spe'ctra
.40 (UFO) lamp using a Yq)C,
are very similar. Thgae CsI.T1 films are clectroluminescent in
fields of about 2 x 10 V/cm, without breakdown. In thicker films

ABSTRACT In ii'-previous paper the authors showed that the bydro-
amination reaction of I -ketoaleahole by formamide or
by its 11-substituoute leads to the formation of a aitro-
geneous heterocycle. Pyrrholidine bases were obtained as
reaction products. With regard to the formation of a
5-membered nitrogeneous heterocycle from, .4-ketoaloohols
(I,11) one can also imagine that water i &rated from
the alcohol- and ammonia- -(or amine-) molecule over a
dehydrating catalyst. The pioduci of such a conversion
must be a corresponding A -pyrrholine (IV). It may well
be poasible that one of the reactlon roducts represents
a homologue of 4,5-dihydro furan. (1115. The authors made
it their object to study the relationoblp between the

Z -ketoalcohols and the dehydrating catalysts, in order
to find a way of synthesis of the comparatively little
investigated and not easily accessible A 2_pyrrholines,
as well as of their dehydrogenation products of pyrrholes.
They have hitherto not been described. As Objects of the
investigation served Yaoetopropy-(I) and secondary
~ -aoetobutyl- (II) alcohol. It was reTealed that the
transformation of the former in an ammonium atroam, at
4500C on aluminumoxide a*hd Pd on asbestos (in an analogous
way Hi/A120 3) resulted in the formation of a-methyl pyrr-
holidine (V), a-methylpyrrhole (VIJ with a 10-20 yield
and a small amount of a-Methyl- A--pyrrholidine (IV).
seems that the last one is the primary reaction produotl
under contact conditions it undergoes disproportionation
according to the type of irrOTersible catalysis by Zelinskiy
yielding V and VI. The formation of a-methylpyrrhole can
be brought about by dehydrogenation of the mentioned sub-
stance under the influence of Pd, as well as under that
of aluminumoxide itself. An examination of the reaction
over aluminumoxide without Ni and Pd revealed that a-methyl

a-mothylpyrrhole develops under these conditions in -very
small amounts. Thus aluminum oxyde exerts prp~ctically no
influence upon the dehydregenation of IV in this case.
The most f Yourable conditions for the formation of a-
mothyl- & I pyrrholing from e-aostoprophylaloohol are
thus given at 310-320OCl using the t-oxide of aluminum
an a catalyst. After satisfactory conditions for the
synthesis of the above mentioned pyrrholone bad been'
found the authors decided to use the I -ketoaloohols
(1111~ in a synthesis of the interesting and little in-
VeBtigated compounds of & 2_pyrrholine bases. Some
homologuen of these substances are known as photo-
sensibiliLtors. The authors succeeded in demonstrating
that a formation of A 2-pyrrheline bases with a yield
of 25-55 % takes Plao'*, when ketoalcohole (I and 11) are
passed through in an ammonia or azine stream; or in a
mitture with an aromatic amino, over aluminumoxide at
316-3200 0. At lower temperatures (280-290 0) they cen--

the sarcolysin-containing peptides were performed in the
Institute for Experimental Pathology and Cancer Therapy of the
Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (Institut eksperi-
mentallnoy patologii i terapii raka Akademii meditsinskikh

possess marked properties close to those of surcolysin which
act against tumors and which at the same time are not toxic
and have a high selectivity of the action upon some tumors.
Finally the general method of production of sarcolysin-con-

ABSTRACT: Samples for the investiiation were discs of 30 mm dia, cut from cold-
rolled strips of Fe-Si (-3 wt.% Si) subjected to different deformations (80 - 96%).
The rolling was carried out reversibly. The samples were annealed at 800 and 1100C
for 4 hours. The rate of heating was 150 deg/hr, and the cooling was together with
the oven. The coercive force He was determined by a ballistic method for magnetiza-
tion of angles 0* - 180* in steps of 22-50, reading from the direction of rolling 14
after 8000 annealing and along the transverse to the direction of rolling after 1100C
annealing. After annealing at 1100C and 96% deformation, a decrease in the average
value of He (0.38 Oe) was observed, compared with the Hc of samples subjected to an-
nealing at 800C and the same deformation (0-75 Oe). A somewhat larger valueof He
after annealing at 13DOC (o.62 Oe) compared with ne of samples subjected to annealing
at 8ooc (0-55 Oe) after 96% deformation, is obviously connected with the fact that

ABSTRACT: A short report on the work performed by the Author and her
students in the investigation of incompressible hquid motions
in thin pellicles on curved surfaces. The basic equations of that
motion are introduced. Existing and potential applications of the
theory (to problems of filtration, in dynamic meteorology and in
turbine design) as well as the future trend of it5 development are
presented.

Abstract : The authors conducted a cmparative study of the intensity of absorption
of phosphorus from a feeding solution by the shoots of various plants.
They did not observe any dependence of the intensity of absorption upon

Absorption of phosphorus ky germinating serds and sprouts of

I Dokl. AN SSSR, 96, Ed. 2, 367 - 389, May 1954
I Experiments show that the absorption of phosphorus begins
simultaneously with the swelling (Lermination) of the seeds.
The absorbed phosphorun concentrates mainly in the seed and its
content " the seed is 18 times hifjier than in the endosperm.
Duriiig further cultivation of the seed the phcophorus content
increases gradually in the roots, sprouts and even in the endosperm.
This absorption is closely connected with the intensive and

ABSTRACT: To obtain aryl esters of N-(B-chloroethyl)taurine with fungicidal
.properties, esters of 0-hydroxyethyltaurine are treated with thionyl
chloride or phosphorus pentachloride in an organic solvent (e.g..
chloroform) at boiling temperature of the solvent. The excess of
the initial reagents and HCl formed are removed-from the reaction
mixture; the residue is dissolved in an organic solvent, e.g., an
ether, then mixed with alcoholic solution of an acids and evaporated.
