ABSTRACT: The author describes how the faulty use of protruding rods
in concrete blocks of the submerged part of the dam built
on the Syr-Darlya river for the Kayrak-Kumakaya GES (Kay-
rak-Kum Power Plant) involved additional expanses and lowered
the solidity of the junctions of these blocks. He an-
numerates the types of protruding rods used in the dam,
which were twisted and broken by current vibration. To
avoid these mistakes, he defines various protruding rods,
which serve ao jointa, when the upper part of the dam is
built.

Abstract The germination of rice depends on the amount of oxygen in
the air; therefore, the flooding of young crops immediately
after planting is not recommended. Before planting, the rice
has to be moistened. The optimal embedding depth is 2 cm.
Surface and deep plantings are inadmissible.

and arare their responsibility to future generations. Author
lists and grades sources of ionizing radiation (natural and
fall-out), discusses its immediate and long-range physiolo-
gical and genetic effects, and natural defense of body as
revealed in studies (Belgium and USA) and witnessed by the
fact that loulcemia occurs primarily in children arid aCed.
Further using, leukemia as an example lie cites seven factors
linking fall-out radiation with leukemia incidence, and quotas
specific data on the rise of this disease in Poland as a uthole.

ABSTRACTS Problem associated with the recording of thermomechanical curves of
powdered materials compression have been considered. Powdered polyvinylbhl.oride
PP-4 was yd as the issuing material. Tablets, 4 x 2 um, were pressed under 420 -
4200 kir/cm , sustaining force-induced elastic deformations. When heated under
various loads, at temperatures up to 300C, the tablets expanded (the high

original compression load, the greater the expansion). Beyond 2100 the

expansion decreased. It was also found that the duration of the original oompres-
sion had an effect on the subsequent expansion. The maximum expansion was obtained

in tablets held in compression Tor 2 minutes. Heating of the tablets for 1 hour at
100C resulted in a loss of their subspquent ability to expand, their behavior being
that of a typical amorphous linear polymer. Samples of powdered polyviny1chloride
containing various quantities of comminuted sand or aluminum oxide (when pressed
into tablets) showed a lesser degree of expansion, as compared with the 160~ pure
polymer samples. These samples acquired the capacity of being compressed into
monolithic blocks under proper application of heat and pressure. Polycondensation
of powdered diallylphthelate with benzylmethaerylate at 150C for 30 minutes yielded
