true spectrum of B(V) of the absorbinj, ~articlee in various media the
experimentally determined spectra need correcticn taking account of the
effective internal field. It is shown that the observed and the true
absorption spectra of particles in a condensed system do not agree as
regards position, intensity, or shape.

ABSTRACT: The absorption spectra of different samples of crystallized and initial
glass based on glass 13 were recorded over a region of 1500 to 400 cm-1 with the
two-light SP-,0O Unicam spectrophotometer. The samples were prepared by applying
a fine powder (mean particle size about I micron) to the polished window of a KBr
crystal. The accuracy of the determination of the band position was about 10 cm-1.
TiO2 was used as a catalyst. The changes In the spectra depending on the amount
of TIOZ and the modifications of spodumene (a and 0) crystals in the crystallized

crystallization of glass and of the separation of P-spodumene in the glassIis the
appearance of a sharp line at 750 cm-1 and of a band structure at 1000 cm .
Twenty four samples were investigated with varying amounts of T102 (0-11%) and
at different quenching temperatures between 600 and 900C, but the spectra of all
samples were similar to the spectrum of spodumene. The absorption spectrum of
titanium glass before heat treatment confirmed the cataly"Ic effect of titanium.

Abstract: At the training farm of the Ukrainian Agricultural
Academy on dark gray podzolic soil in 8-field grain
and potato crop rotations, a comparison was made in
1953-1954 of the yields and quality of winter wheat
grain growth on a vetch and oat fallow (VOF) and on
a cover of perennial grasses (G) both without and
with fertilization. The wheat yield without fer-
tilizer in 1953 totalled on VOF 18.6 and on G-13.9,
while in 1954 it was 16.2 and 16.0 centners per
