TITLE: The possibility of generation of self-excited
vibrations of aeroplane wing

TEXT: The authors accepted a similar wing model an that given by
Y. Rocard (L'instabilit4en me'chanique, Paris, 1954), i.e. with
two degrees of freedom. In contrast to earlier work aiming at
linearization, nonlinear equations were obtained which under
certain conditions may yield a periodic solution. This solution
represents u limiting condition, i.e. a limiting cycle, of the
vibration of an aeroplane wing. An energy diagram for the two
degrees of freedom system is given, the source of energy being the
airstream engulfing the wing, while the control of the energy
supply is a function defining the dependence of the aerodynamic
forces on the angle of incidence. Taking into consideration the
aerodynamic characteristics of the profiles, particularly those

which are nons),ijuijetrical, it is shown that the above dependence is
highly nonlinear. The vibrational system, i.e. the wing,
experiences two types of vibration, the bending and the torsional
ones. Both these types are coupled. By taking into consideration
the nonlinearity, it is shown that self-excited vibrations may
appear in certain conditions capable of definition. These
conditions are analyzed at length, special attention being given
to the conditions under which self-excited vibrations may grow
when the system is removed from equilibrium. There are 5 figures.

procedures in the petroleum industry. The new instructions are
based on the official instructions issued by the Stowarzyszenie
Naulcowo-Techniczne Intynier6w i Technik6w PN (Scientific and Techni-
cal Association of Polish Petroleum Engineers and'Technicians), on
US standards (API) and on Soviet standards kGOST). Individual
paragraphs of the instructions are dedicated to cement sampling and
necessary instrumentation, fineness specifications for cement used

On the basis of material from the Radiological Clinic of the Medical Academy in
Wroclaw, the observations appearance of herpes tooter after treatment of
cancer of the breast by X-rayi are presented. In total. 219 patients were irradiat-
ed: herpes tooter was observed in I cases, The period of clinical and radiological
observation from the titne of appearance of herpes tooter was from 2 to 5 yr. In
this period no metastasts were seen in 5 patients. The localization of herp"
zoster most frequently observed was on the opposite side from that where the breast
had been operated upon (5 cases). Herpes tooter appeared mostly 2-3 months
after the termination of the treatment, and in one case a year later. In 2 patients
herpes zoater appeared simultaneously with metastases, i.e. it was a symi4omatic
her" tooter, On the basis of observations from the literature and the course of
the above mentioned cases, it should be assumed that X-rays in certain cases may
induce the appearance of herpes tooter. The question, however, whether there is
any connection between cancer of the breast and herpes zoster cannot be answered
as yet because the setiology of herpes tooter and that of cancer as well as the
processes of the reactivity of tissues to the X-ray energy are not sufficiently ex-

ABVRACT: The investigation dealt with exoelectron emission in vacuum in the process
of plastic deforvation of iauminum coated with a thick (over 50 mp) barrier layer
of electrolytic ox3Ae. D0formation was found to be accompanied by electron emission
also In the abse'~ke e of I~Sht. According to the thickness of the oxide layer, one
sharp maximmon the cuzi4t of N/t (E) was found at a deformation s of about 1 to
2% and another niax~mum 0 on the same curve at a deformation c of 3 to 4%. The
maximum 0 is hi0her and more diffluent. The height and shape of the two maxima of
the N/t (c) cui
ft do not depend on the stimulating light and appear also in the dark.
It is shown that, their height is affected by: a) the thickness of the layer D,
