Willingdon Island, Cochin, Madras States. Willingdon Island, Cochin
Harbor, October 15, 1948. The N.G.S. Photo-Survey truck is prepared
for hoisting onto a pontoon which will take it alongside the S.S. Nawab
for shipment to Calcutta. A large Swedish merchant ship is tied up in
the background. Cochin docks are equipped with modern cranes. At
Calcutta, the dockside cranes were unable to lift the truck off the
Nawab, and the ship's derrick had to be used to lift the 2z ton load
and lower it onto the wharf.
