The authors prefer the open to the closed method. It gives the best results in trans- verse fractures in the medial part of the femur and humerus and is suitable even in the case of open wounds. The pins should be strong and long enough as im- mobilization must, be complete. Acute blecding during cor- ticosteroid treatmont and the difficulty of dia-nosis of this bleed- ing are discussed. Hemorrhagic gastritis, like acute ulcers with profuse ble.-iding, usually rosults in an operation withour, a prelim- inary diagnosis of tiic actual condition of the patient. X-ray ex- amination during bleeding is beneficial to the patient. 1 Table, no references. (Manuscript received Oct 65)- FRIEDEP Rudolf promovnny ekcmom. In this case the masses of the secondary particles were 271:t 79 me (a6 -star is produced) and 260,t-41 me (leaves the emulsion). Assuming that these are ir-mesons, we get Q - 23'tl8 Mev, and the mass of t8a 00 is 595 :t 36 me. The results of the statistical analysis of 64 & decays, observed by various authors, are given. Two pharp maxima are observed on the probability curve, corresponding t6 60 particle masses of.593 t 10 and 973 t* 25 me, which is in good agreement with the directly observed values. The author proposes that the lifetime of a 00 particle with mass of approximately 595 me is substantially greater than the lifetime of a 0 0 particle with a max 973 me. In their introduction the authors discuss several papers (Shayn (Schein-)-and HBD4starB (Refs 1 and 2)), nuclear-active components of cosmic radiation in the air (Refs 3,4), the structure of atmospheric showers (Refs 5,6), the theory by Landau (Ref 8), Heisenberg (Geyzenberg) (Ref 7), Belentkiy (Ref 9) etc. The present paper aims at investigating the influence exercised by various factors upon the eourse of the transition curve for electron-nuclear showers in a dense absorbing medium. Card 1/3 It is assumed that also for medium energies there exist On the Nature of the Particles Which Carry Away Most SOV/56-35-1-14/59 of the Energy in Nuclear Collisions With Medium Energies so-called "energetically preferred particles" in every stage of the nuclear cascade process. For the purpose of determining the portion of the decaying particles in the generating component and the existence of unstable particles among those which are "energeti- cally preferred" a comparison is drawn with absorption in air. Among the unstable energetically preferred particles there may be n;L -, KV_ , Ke- mesons but not E)_ or-t-mesons. However, in reference 26 mention is made of electro-nuclear showers, in which both the inciding as well as the emitted energetically-preferred particles occur in form oft-mesons. In conclusion, the authors thank D.V.Skobelltsyn, Academician, and the collaborators of the Laboratoriya kosmicheskikh luchey FIAN SSSR (Laboratory of Cosmic Radiation of the Physics Institute,AS USSR) for their critical dis- cussion of this work and for their valuable comments. In all, 721 such Intm- actions were detected. It was found that multiplicity of the shower partlclC3 does not depend on the number of black tracks In the star. Abstract: An anti-measle8 vaccine prepared with modified live IM60-5Huang virus was tested on 220 children. Only minor clinical reactions resulted, with a complete absence of rashes or con- vulsions. One month after vaccination serum conversion was 79,41 percent, and the titer of anti-measles hemagglutination-inhibiting antibodies varied between 1/80 and 1/320. After 4 months the corresponding values were 75 percent and 1/40 to 1/80. Thus the vaccination seems to confer a specific immunity, which so far has protected the vaccinated children against measles.. RUMANIA / Chemical Technology.
