A large number of automobil tires are damaged after a very small mileage be-
cause the outer oover is destroyed by contact with some obstacle. In order to
study the behavior of the tissue when subjected to such an impact, a penduluzi-
ram was constructed. The ballistic dynamometer by GUDBRANDT, whior. is usually
used In practice, has a number of essential faults. These faults oan be eliml-
nated by separating the holding device from the pendulum. This may be attained
in two ways: these impact tests were carried out on the stationary and immobile
sample, which is held in a position vertical to the oscillation plane of the:
pendulum. The essential difference between the method of testing the tissue by
means of a pendulum-ram on the one hand and that on the ballistic dynamometer
on the other consists in the fact that, in the first case, the velocity of -the
deformation of the fibre grows during the process of expansion, whereas in the
second case it remains nearly constant. The construction scheme and a photo of
the pendulum ram is shown. The values obtained for elongation by tearing W.,e
more or less approximative valuesp because the actual amounts of these elonga-

nation are definedg and the influence of molybdenum and other elements
is investigated. For the separation of rhenium and molybdenum, the method
by B. N. Ranskiy (Ref- 3) has frequently been applied, It is based upon
the sintering of the sample by CaO in the presence of Ca(NO 3)2' and the
lixiviation of the sintered mass by dilute bromine water. It was found
that the temperature during two- to.three hour sintering must not exceed
7000C, since at higher temperatures rhenium losses of up to 30% may occur
(Ref. 4). During the lixiviation of the sintered mass with water, 93-96%
of rhenium, dissolve, while only 0.6-1.0 mg of Mo/100 ml enter into the
filtrate. Besides rhenium and molybdenum, considerable amounts of

sulfates are dissolved, and interfera with the rhenium determination by
reaction with thiourea. An addition of BaCI.2quantitatively precipitates
the sulfates and reduces the molybdenum content of the solution to
200-300t per 100 ml. By adding BaCI 2 to the filtrate after the separation
of caloiummolybdate by a CaO excess, a reduction of the Mo content to
approximately 30r, and the tungsten content to less than 3& can be attain
ed. This quantitative separation of molybdenum -an only be attained in
the presence of S02-, and that of tungsten only in the presence of

molybdenum (Table 1). The separation of rhenium from Cd, Bi, Sb, Hg,, Se,
Te, and As which disturb the reaction with thiourea, is the same. By the
method developed, it is Possible to determine rhenium in molybdeniteS
and their processing products according to the thiocyanate and thiourea
methods. The determination of =henium is possible in the presence of' no
more than 50S' of Mo. Tungsten increases the results of the Re determi-
nation by the thiocyanate method already with amounts of 2,~-, while the
presence of 100,.~ does not interfere with the thiourea method. Table 2
gives the results of rhenium. determination in artificial mixtures.

Considerable deviations were only found with a rhenium content of 5e-which
corresponds to 5-10_1% if the weighed portion Is 1 g. For the determination
of 1.10-4 to 1.10_3~ of Re, the oolorimetria thiocyanate, and for larger
quantitiest the thiourea methods are recommended. The results of Table 3
prove the high reproducibility of both methods. Only one sample with an
Re content of n.10-A76 was available. 0.00012 and 0,0001L% of Re were fomd-

tained 0.00013% of Re. The determination was carried out exclusively so-
cording to the thiocyanate method. The analysis with thiourea is described
for products with a rhenium content of 0,001-0.1%. The calibration curve
for the determination of rhenium from the reaction with thiourea is given
(Fig..). The ~3k-H (FEK-N) photocolori meter with violet filter was used.
The analysis with thiocyanate for products with a rhenilum content of 2.10-4
