Abstract : Report of results of studies of one of the large bentonite
clay deposits in Hungary. The deposit comprises two stra-
ta: upper, of graater depth and lesB pure, with an avera-
ge montvKwrillonite content of 66% (computed as Va-wntmo-

The basic material is Ca-montmorillonite. Thewaste rock
is rhyoll.tic tuff.
Included are 5 analyses of the above-stated rochm.

Abstract: Using a previously reported mothod Mhl(him,

montmorillonite samples from bentonites of dif-

Abstract: tahodral layer two at s of A,3~ are substituted
by 3~ hree atoms of Ug2rrather than one atom of
1.1 by one atom of Mg2~ (the substitution thus
appears to proceed stoichiomotrically, It is
assumed that the lattice contains mixed hydrar-
gillitc-brucite layers); (3) tho crystal lattico
of montmorillonite is compensatod and hence no
excess charge is produced by substitution. It
follows from tha above discussion that capacity
for ion exchange does not result from an excess
of charge pS~ducod by the substitution of 1 S14/
ion by 1 Al ion in the ta~phl-;dral layoE and
by the substitution of 1 Al ion by 1 Mg / ion
in the octahcdral layer. A fourth conclusion
which can bo drawn from the authors' work is that

TEXT: The basic cause of crack formation In alloys containing (in%)
Zn 5.5 - 7, Mg 2.4 - 3.6, Cu 1.8 - 2.3, the rest Al, is the non-uniform dis-
tribution of alloying metals in the castings and the jump-like changes of linear
dimensions during their heating or cooling, which causes high intezmal stresses.
To obtain dense Ingots, the authors recommend low casting temperature, uniform
metal distribution and cooling, assuring the production of a fine-crystalline
structure.

Abstract With the aim of picking out high-yield varieties of pota-
to, the Institute of Selection set up preliminary experi-
ments with 36 varieties of potato. The following varie-
ties were singled out for their high yield: Margit, Per-
visnik, Gulbaba, Ella, Boldogito, Aranyalm, Merkur.
The following varieties were more susceptible than others
to insect,,damge: Gulbaba,, Visla, Ella, K 792, K 209,
K 103, Kruger, and Voltman.

Budapest, Acta Physiologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae, Supplement
to Vol 22, 1963; p 2-8.
Abstract [Authors' EngUsh summary modified]: The effects of LSD-2-5,
Ua-491 and dihydroergotamine on mescaline sterootypia and exci-
tation have been studied in mice. Inhibition of the scratch reflex
evoked by mescaline war, strongest with LSD-25. Tbe latter also completely
blocked the stimulating effect of mescaline, and the action of BOL-148
was th,~ same, but the other two compounds were ineffective. The highest
serotonin aotivity was exhibited by UML-491.

ABSTRACT: On the basis of references in the literature the following subjects
were discussed: Manufacture of detectors vith surface seal layer, diffusion
layer, and with lithium-ion,drift; signal shape, seal layer thickness, return current,
resolving ability, signal development time, window thickness, background, and sensi-
tivity to external influences; applications in the spectrometry of alpha radiation,
spectrometery of charged particles in the study of nuclear reactions, study of fis-
sioned particles, measurement of gamma radiation, and measurement of neutrons. The
electronic devices employed, in conjunction with the semiconductor detectors will be
discussed in a subsequent Jnstalment. Origo art. has: 29 figures, 12 formulas and

The authors examined the size of both jugular foramina in cadavers comparing the
findings on tomographs with photographs and X-ray films of the macerated bone
Itself. The tonlographic examination was carried out in Csdkdny's modification of
the semi-axial projection and in Water*a projection. It was found that the left jugu-
lar foramen is larger than the right one and so are the left jugular fossa and the
left sulcus sigmuideus larger than those on the right. It to concluded that the above-
mentioned tomographic examination to suitable for the symmetrical. comparative
demonstration of both jugular foramina. B1"& - Prague (XrV, 8*)
