1a During dune 1951 newly arrived Soviet troops were stationed at Ploesti,
Timisoara, Roman, Craiova, Turnu Severin, Giurgiu, Galati, Constanta,
Resita and Suceava. Most of these units were mechanized and armed with
mountain artillery and tanks. Informant could make no estimate of the
number or identity of the troops in question.
2,, Reportedly, Soviet jet-propelled aircraft have been located on the airfields
of Bucharest, Constanta, Craiova, Arad, Giurgiu, Buzau and Turnu Severin,
No further details were supplied by informant.
3a Reportedly, the registration of all women in Rumania between the ages of
23 to 45 has been ordered for the purpose of enlisting them in auxiliary
services such as antiaircraft defense work, transportation, medical and
communication services.
4. Widespread rumors in Rumania were being heard to the effect that a purge
was imminent in the ranks of the Communist Party as well as in various
State services.
