1a Fu'ad Siraj-a1-Din Pasha, the Egyptian Llinistor of the Interior and of
Finanoog said privately at the and of December 1950 that all decisions
regarding the lkhamn had been suspendod for the present. There tiere
many reasons for this docision, but the chief one vas the revelations
in the current "jeep oase'a" which had proved that the Ilftmn vas planning
the overthrow of the prosont regime is order to eatablish a purely Lloslem
state. Ile admitted that he h2asolf me now in a quandary as he had made
a definite promise to the Ikhwni to reinstate it and rostore its assets,
Howeverp in view of the seriousness of the revelations he mould not
hesitate to go back on his wordf he vas also somewhat afraid of the
reaction of the Opposition,, tiro ho to allow the Ikhwan to ftiacotion again0
2, Fu'ad Sirs?-al-Din Pasha's policy to.rd the Ikhmns to split it by
sawing dissension within its ranlas, Hence the roason for his support of
ITustafa Liu'mino taken this had served its purpose he continued his attempts
to divide the I khwan by getting in touch with IIusan al-Hudsibi Bey' nd
Salim Ashmawi and offering them whet he had refused Iyustafa Llu'ffino
namo1ym the restoration. -,of the Ikhir? n under its fore title provided
that it undertook to restrict its activities to roligicue matters and
not to engage in politics* Ilowevora they refused his offer and insisted
on the unconditional restoration of the Ikhwan. Siraj-al-Din Pasha has
therefore since got in touch with a third group headed by Shaykh al-Bakuri,,
using Shaykh al-Darraz as intcrmod1a y, even though he honor, that this
group zees already in touch with the Sadist Party. By these approaches
SiraJ-^al-Din, hopes so to disorf;ax ize the Ikhw i that by the time of the
coming elections it will have no standing in the country.
