Sister Kenny's method is the best form of treetment. The s-oasms, contractions
and contractures which may occur during the Dre--naralytic sta,pe may thns be
-prevented and contrnctures which have already occurred may be cured. The muscular
spasms are probably due to irritation of the anterior horn cells or to involvement
of the lateral horns of the sy)inal cord. Py the use af this treatment, instituted
at the onset of the disease, 80% of cures of the spasms and contrar!tures, thausah
not of the paralysis, were obtained with one course as ngainst 20% by other methods.
The duration of a course is six weeks. Hot fomentgtiong and baths are given so
long as aparms or contractures persist. Fomentations v-ould be as many as -possible
daily. One to two baths daily, with exercises, are indicated in the early stages,
with active and passive movements later. The fomentations and. 'baths are cont-~a
indicated in cases of paralysis of tl,,e respiratory muscles, owing to exhaustion
of the patient. Re-innervation is dangerous, the fixation of muscles prohibiting

Abstract : The -Lanifestation of patholo6ical inhibition on the EEG
in a number of diseases (narcolepsy, hypersomnia, orGa-
nic diseases of the mesodiencephalic region as well as
neuroses and pseudoneuroses) under certain conditions is
similar to the manifestation of sleep inhibition but does
not possess its dynamic properties. The sleep inihibition
reflects the weakeninG of cortex afiferentation in fune-

Abstract Juthors' English sum,nary modified -7: 107 worlk-ers sub-
jected to hif.-,11 pressure and decompression during thoir occupa-
tion were examined by EEG. In workmen who did not yet suffer
from the disease,the EEG remains normal; workers who suffer only
from the osteoarthritic form of the disease have nearly normal
EEG. In the purely labyrinthine formonly 50% of the EEG are
normal. In individuals who suffered from the nervous form of
the disease,66-7'//o of the recordings are not normal. It seems,
that EEG abnormality is due to disturbances in the higher divi-

In two cases an almost total flaccid paralysis of the upper extremities developed.
The second case had a negative WR. The author explains the clinical findings
as due to a lesion of the arteries supplying the ventral horns which are terminal
arteries, while other spinal arteries have a considerable collateral circulation.
The swollen meninges may also have played a part in the development of the
paralysis.

TM: The measurings are carried out on two frequencies with the help of
a bridge containing a-differential transformer. The middle point of the latter
is connected to the grounded lead-out of the indicating device and to the col-
lecLor of the semiconductor triode subjected to tests. The measuring arm of the
bridge, cut in between one end of the transformer winding and the ungrounded
lead-out of the indicator, is formed by the circuit of the emitter and the base
of the semiconductor triode. The compensation circuit, cut in between the other
.end of the winding and the unground lead-out of the indicator, contains the ad-
justing resistances which are successively connected, and the collector.

Aostract : The proanos-is in myelopathy depends upon the etiological
factor and the desTee of disturbance in bone marrow function.
Toxic and allergic myelopathies differ pathogenetically.
The former arise following chronic intoxication with various
chemical substances, the latter when there is increased sen-
sitivity to certain substanc6s. The tonsillar focus can
lead to the development of pam-yelopathy, in the mechanism
of which perivascular, perisinus or allergic edema plays an
important role. The differential diagnosis of toxic and
allergic nyelopathy is difficult. With the former there is
a sudden onset with a serious condition and rapid improvement;

This is a brief resume of expts started in 1951.
Recent work revealed.that whole blood is.unsuit-
able as a preservation medium for arteries..It
produced thrombosis 'in the transplants. Suggests
effective preservatio.n medium consisting of Ringer's
soln + 10% of blood plasma + 5,000 units of peni-
cillin per I ml of soln% Gives 10-14 days as the

time limit for the preservation of blood vessels.
Longer preservation creates the hazard of a rup-
ture of the transplant. Further research in this
field is continuing.
