"Effect of Creep on the Distribution of Internal Stresses in
Orthotropic Shells, " by 1. Yo. Prokopovich (Odessa), Lnzhenerny-
Sbornik, Vol 24, 1957, i5_15f~_lff
Two examples of the effect of creep on stresses of anisotropic bodies
are analyzed. The studied bodies are thin shells possessing elactic-creep
orthotropy, i.e., shells having different elastic and creep properties along
tmo mutually perpendicular axes, coincidinS with the main radii of curvat-ure.
It was found that creep ha5 a substantial effect on the stress in Ecnel'al -and
on the stress produced by acting external forces. The creep effect may be ex-
plained by the redistribution of strain and. stress in aniGotrapic system.-;.
Formulas are presented for computing the effect of creep in orthotropic shells
.-,of cylindrical or spherical types. These formulas may be generalized for the
cuse of stress and strain produced by deformation. (U)

P,USTRUICT: Tie author has mensured the current distribution to the plane electrode 4n
to 10 c.-.t point to plane corona discharges in air at pressures from 0.8 to 1.8 atri.
IThe plane electrode consisted of nine separate rings of equal area, the current to
each of which was measured. The ratio of the current to the volta-e was found to be
la linear function of the voltage, and the current was inversely proportional to the
ipressure. The current distribution on the plane electrode and the total current as
a funztion of gap length are compared with the predictions of the formula off VI.Deutsch
1(Pnys.zS., 34, 448) 1933). This formula does not very well reproduce either the
radial or the gap length dependence of the current, and it predicts a total current
!that is an order of magAitude higher than is observed. An analogous forrnula is de-
;rived on the assumption that the electric lines of force in the gap region are
straight lines. This formula does not reproduce the radial dependence of "he current

of the observed order of magnitude. It is concluded that the electric linc:s of force i
win the gap region are noithor elliptic arcs (as was assumed by Deutsch) nor straight
flines (as was assumed in the present derivation), but that they have some other shape.
lit is also concluded that the distribution of the electric field in the gap re.gion
'~determlnes the distribution of current to the plane electrode. The author thanks

ABSTRACT:-~,The author has.mensured the forces on the electrodes in point to plane
carona qjRqhqr&iLa at gap lengths from 3 to 10 cm, air pressures from 0.8 to 2.8 atm,
and potentials from about 41t0 9 W. The point alectrodd was mounted on one arm of a
torsion balance which was kept balanced by a sorvo-system. The torsion balance was
mounted within c metal container of volume 0.5 M3 and the apparatus was calibrated to
within 3%. The force F on the point electrode was found to be given by
F - A(P + B)lj3-/2(U _ Uc) , where U is the potential an the electrodes and p is jj.~a-
sumably the air pressure. 'uc is the critical voltage defined by the current-voltage
characteristic of the coi~ona dincharge (Kaptsov, Koronnyy razryad. Goatelchizdat, M.-L.

TEXT: The temperature dependence of the thermo-emf and the electrical
conductivity of AgBr and TIBr specimens was examined in the presence of
desensitizers. Tablets were pressed from the material obtained by interaction
alir' Ag or Tl nitrate solutions with ?3r. The apparatus used for measuring the
thermo-emf in a wide temperature range is described. ConductIvity and thermo-
em-.P were h-igher in desensitized specimens than in non-desensitized ones. The
specimens possessed hole conductivity. Evidently, the desensitizer plays tne
role of an acceptor impurity in the materials under consideration.

Abstract An analysis of the specificity of 64 species of helmin-'--hs

TEXT: The conversion of a continuous signal into a pulse-
code represents a complex of the several following operations:
Quantization of the signal in time, quantization of rhe signal level,
a-ad coding of the level. Level quantization and coding are always
done together. Three methods of coding are used.- 1.) Counting; 2)
weighing, or the method of step compensation; .3) counting of pulse s
in a certain time interval by means of a binary counter. At the
receiving end of the system a decoder reconstitutes a continuous
signal out of the pulse-code. The block diagram is discussed of a

Abstract% (Authors' English summary modified] Compared with the previous
UFe_e_yeai period, cases of swine tb decreased, tb of cattle, determined
macroscopically. decreased from 11-13 to 9.5-7.5 per cent, that of pigs
decreased from I to 0.3.0.6 per cent. The incidence of severe. generali ad
cases of tb in cattle increased two-fold, in swine three-fold. Swine
las decreased to one third of the previous level, swine fever and
erys'-pe
aalmonellosis showed a new increase after a transient decrease. Fasciolo-
ais of cattle and echinococcosis of swine caused steadily high losses,
with heavy infestation in about one-third of each stock. Severe cases
of fasciolosis of sheep was put to 30 per cent among the slaughtered
animals. Cysticorcosis of cattle inoreasod slightly while In pigs it was
observed very rarely, with only six cases reported in 1961. 6 FAStOM

ABSTRACT: After the development of a high-precision system of frequency control of
the accelerating field of the proton 50-60 Gev synchrotron with critical energy
compensation (Mints, A. L., et al., Proc. International Conference on High Energy
Accelerators and Instruments, CERM 1959)0 It was decided to achieve an alternative
0
accelerator with transition through the critical energy$ which makes It possible t
increase the energy to 70 Gev. to this modification of the accelerator serious dl
f1cultied are encountered with the p"lization of a Systen for generating an Inc
lerating field with freqvenc~ control only according to the ff-progrem. Therefzo/
