content of ores; in most cases a fast-neutron source is used for t.-e analysis.

reactions of thermal neutrons foilned by the slowing down of the fast neutrons.
Calculation of the spatial distribution of the source in an infinite,
hydro--en-frac meditmi Indicated that at 20 cm from the source, the;~,3-NcV

Abstract Mechanical irritation of rabbit urinary bladder recep-
tors was caused by beads and polyhedral stones introdu-
ced through a surgical incision. While the wound was
healing (4-24 days) injection was caused by introdu-
cing a piece of testis with syphilitic sclerosis into
the cavity of the tunica vaginalis. The incubation
period was shortened by the irritating effect of the

AE-ESMICT.' A study of the effect of free bases and acids on the structure and proper-
ties of hydrated Ca-lubricants was carried out on a lubricant thickened with soaDs of
mixtures of stearic (HSt) and oleic (HOI) acids taken in the prODortion of 1 :3. * Elec
tron photomicrographs of the structure of the lubricants showed ihat on passing from
weakly acidic and neutral lubricants to alkaline ones, a regular increase in the num-
ber of flat, band-sbaped crystallites is observed with increasing alkalinity. The in
fluonce of basicity (acidity) on the structure of hydrated Ca-lubricants correSDonds
to changes in their volumo-mechanical roperties. The gre'atest thickening effect is
obtained with a concentration of 0.1WDIaOH in the lubricant, which then has the -,ax-
I iTrara strength and viscosity. Its dispersed phase consists of a combination of band-
11 shar)ed and tw-isted fibers of soap. It is shown that the basicity of hydrated Ca-lu-
lubiricants should not exceed 0.15% NaO'rl. On the other hand, the presence of excess

organic acids (up to 0.5% NIa0H) has no adverse effect on the properties of the lubri-

cants. To obtain the maximum thickening effect, greases containing from 0.04 to 0.12%

thetic fatty acids (acid number 103 mg KOH/g), C5-Cq acids (280 mg KOH/g), and acid

c6n%oil. This composition corresponds to that of corwercial synthetic grease. It was
found that a change in the water content of thn greases in the range of I to 55- does
not affect their volume mechanical properties or structure, indicating that it is de-
sirablo to raise the water content of such greases to 4-5%. The structure of hydrated
calcium lubricants prepared from soaps of narrow fractions of heat-treated and dis-
tillod synthetic fatty acids and their mixtures differs from the structure of fatty
and synthetic greases in that it consists of rod-shaped, petal-shapod, and flaky soap

tion of 1-3p glyrerides of higher unsaturated carboxylic acids (e. g., sleostearic

calcium soaps of stearic and acetic acids) improved the visco3ity-temperature and vis-
cosity-speed characteristics. The products thus obtained considerably surpass ordi-
nary solid lubricants4n. properties and can be used as universal multipurpose lubri-
cants. Tests in roller bearings at 1200 confi=ed that the new lubricants had much

ABSTRACT: A system for measuring and recording the attenuation of radiowaves and the
horizontal drift of small inhomogeneities in the ionosphere is briefly described. The
system consists of a variable power output transmitter with a maximum pulse power of
20 kw, two modified R-2501.1 receivers (with the AVC and ladder if filters removed)
operating in conjunction with three antennas. One receiver is used for measuring the
attenuation factor: it normally uses a three beam umbrella-type antenna. The other
receiver measures the drifts and is normally tied to two inverted L antennas in a
3pace diversity configuration. Any receiver may be connected to any antenna by virtues
f an electronic commutator. The recording of drift or attenuation is done with the
td of 13L037 display tubes whose images and a special mask with time data are
