The form of the wave spectrum is shown graphically for two values of u where u = 1'rHa/c (wH is the gyrofrequency, a is the radius of the spiral), indicating the rogions where slow and fast waves are propagated and also the regions of no propagation. Dispersion curves are obtained by graphical analysis before and after resonance for the case when the direction of wave propagation coincides with the direction of the magnetic field and also the converse of this. The direction of the magnetic field influences the phase velocity of the waves. Cylindrical specimens 10 mm in dia- meter and 40 mm, long with uniform microstructure and polished ends,were studied at temperatures from 77 to 1600K. Curves are given for the breaking point, limit of proportionality and relative compression as functions of temperature. These data show that crystalline ammonia ho extremely low strength properties and ductility. Solid ammonia is quite hrittlelat the temperature of liquid nitrogen and sbows elas- tic deformation right up to the breaking point. At stresses of 0.5-0.6 kg/MM2,cracks are formed parallel to the axis of the specimen with an accompanying characteristic C,rd 1/2 L 9252-66 ACC NR: AP5022724 sound and a slight reduction in loading (up to 100 g). The final breaking stre IvO.8 kg/MM2 remains constant throughout the experimental temperature range. At point there is an instantaneous reduction in loading to zero and the specimen is shattered. The shape of the fragments and the slight degree of deformation before the breaking point show that cleavage is the mechanism responsible for fracture of ammonia crystals between 77 and 1300K. Above 1300K (0.6 T ), the ductility of the specimens increases and creep is observed under a constantmload. Shearing is respon- sible for fracture above this point since cleavage strength remains nearly constant with temperature, while an increase in temperature causes a considerable reduction in shearing strength. The relationship between rate of uniform creep V and stress a is V=Aan , where A and n are constants equal to 500 and 5 respectively at 1600K and stresses greater than the limit of proportionality. The energy of creep activation is found to be 5.6 Kcal/mol. This is approximately 10% lower than the heat of sub- limation for solid ammonia. Orig. art. has: 3 figures. Aluminum and its loys were vaporized in a vacuum of 10-D mm Hg. The condensates we..-O formed on polished and carefully cleaned open steel rings, located co- axially with the crucible at a distance of 80 mm. A temperature gradient Of 50-55000 was created by heating one end of the ring and cooling the other. The thickness of the condensate film was approximately 40 microns. Vaporization of aluminum from alundum UDC:539.23 + 546.261 - 'IM AP5027144 crucibles at 120000 was accompanied by the reaction of the material of the crucible with the molten aluminum. The employment of the CW significantly reduces the consumption of ferrous and nonferrous metals and auxiliary materials and eliminates such operations as the manufacture of fittings, their attachment, etc. The electrical circuitry of CW is examined. Technical specifications and photo- graphs of the CW machine are given. At a current of up to 300,000 amp the productivity of the machine amounts to 100-125 welding Card 1/2 operations per hour. Aftp- three or four such burnings a homogeneous product was formed Burning -for 1.2 - !6 hr at 15000C results in monomineral C 3 Ge which Ls a U - 4e crystal-optical proper- rather solid light grPen-yellowish sinter. The high-tempera- 3 2 t-Are "herrnogram of C',Ge shows an endoeffect at 4560C which -3 F_-xplained b1',- th,: IOSS of the hydrate water on the surface of the CaO grains, The 0 ,affect at 743 C is attributed to the beginning conversion to C Ge whi-ch 0 2 S proved by two intensive endoeffects at 1360 and '454 C. Also C 3 Ge disso--ves comi)letely in a 5~6' solution of boric acid. C3Ge crushed and Card 31A / t S/'020/61/141/004/009/0'9 Ca--,c-",-,m lerr.,.anate3 and B'03/BIOI -1 water binds with-,n -'5 min.
