TITLE: Electrodeposition of bright copper with superposition of
a-c on d-c

TEXT: The effect of a nickel sublayer on the brightneag of
electrodeposited copper was etudied. A bright nickel sublayer was
obtained from an electrolyte containing 170 9/1 NiSO 4' 7H 20, 30 9/1 H 3B0 3Y
12 g1l KC1, and 6 g11 naphthaline disulfonie'acid with a PH of 4 - 6, at
a current density given by,V. V. Ostroumov and I. F. Plokhotnikova (Zh.
prikl. khimi4 -, 1520, 1668, 1958)- However, copper deposited on it from
an electrolyte containing 200 g1l cuso 4* 5H20 and 100 g11 H2so4 stayed matt
even when-quinaldine or coumarone had been added to the nickel electrolyte.
Polishing of the sublayer was also ineffective. Increase in the current
density to 13 - 17 ma/cm 2 at 18 0C and to 21 ma/cm 2 at 250C caused the

formation on the nickel of a matt, bluish thin coating of Ni oriented
along the (011) axis. At an optimum ratio D a_rI /D d-c ' 1-10 - 1-15, very
bright copper deposits with a high reflecting power were obtained on such
sublayers with a thickness not less than 7 - 8 p. Increase of the ratio
to more than 1,29 reduced the brightness and a change in the d-c density

from 3 to 10 a/dm had no effect as long as D a-c /D d-C remained unchanged.
An Xwray analysis shows that the bright copper plating obtained by a-c
superposition is oriented along the (125) axis and its texture could be
characterized in individual cases as quani-microcrystallina, whereas
copper deposited on a non-oriented Ni sublayer has a texture oriented
along the (011) axis. This confirms the assumption of Ostroumov and
Plokhotnikova that the sublayer structure has an orienting effect on the
crystallization of the first copper layer. The authors# however, assume
that the orienting effect depends not on cathode pkssivation, but on
other factors, such as a-reduced overeaturation with a-c during elootrolysia,
which means a shift in conditions for the formation of seed crystals
toward equilibrium. There are 2 figures.

etc. Decause of its abundance, the mterial
admitted of statistical treatment and of inter-
polation smoothing of curves of age dynamic with
respect to all primary indicators and indices.
The findings are presented, in addition to graphs,
in the form of a number of tables which are suit-
able as source material for further studies on the
influence of positive (sport, therapeutic physi-
cal exercise, health resorts, etc.) and negative
(incorrect posture, occupational influences, etc.)

Measurement of the spinal curvatures with specially constructed calipers p(.1-111it
evaluation of the static and dynamic functions of the spine in relation to tht. llosi-
tions of the pelvis, thoracic cage and shoulder girdle and their mobility. Die
angles between perpendicular and the axes of the following structure.; WVIT n1OaS-
ured: sacrum (a), lumbo-lower dorsal segment (0), upper dorsal segment j -1) and
the plane of inclination of the pelvis (xj). The following combined angles ave de-
fined: sacro-pelvic ( -y a x, + a), index of lumbai, lordosis (a + 0); iingiv of lumbar
lordosis w 180 - (a + 0); the static index of the budy f a xj+ 2(a + 0) show's the re-
lative position of the lumbosacral curve and the pelvis. Statisticni evaluation of
the results of measurements on 17,000 persons shows that the spines of infants and
pre -schoolchildren present little in the way of spinal curvatures and that the post-
ure of the body as a whole is nearly vertical. The change in the position of the pel-
vis towards more horizontal takes place very actively until 16 years o.'* age. After
that age in the male the angle of inclination of the pelvis goes on increasing and
the lumbar part of lumbar lordosis develops. In the female the angle of inclination
of the pelvis diminishes and the sacral part of lumbo-sacral lordosis develops.
The dorsal kyphosis is more pronounced in the male than in the female. The chan-
ges in the indic6s of the spinal curvatures during growth of the individual progress
according to a law, and can be expressed graphicaUy by parabolae of the 2nd, 3rd
and 4th orders. Tables permit evaluation of the effects of prophylactic and thera-
peutic measures and of the departure from normal of the spinal curvatures and
