TITLEs News in Brief PERIODICALt Stal't 1960, No. 12, p-1,106 TEXTs In the Chelyabinsk Scientific Research Institute of Metallurgy tests were carried out in cooperation with the Chelyabinsk Ferro-Alloy Plant to establish the technology of silioochrome production in one stage, from Aktyubinsk chrome ore and Bakallsk quarzite. Small coke and charcoal were used as reducing agental magnesite and fluorite as fluxes. The meltings were carried.- out at transformer voltages of 82 and 95 with a power of about 650 kvA. In order to examine the mechanism of the process, the furnace was switched off without smelting and the content of the bath was analyzed. Silicochrome with a silicate content of 40-45% could be obtained in continuous process with the charging hole closed, the slags having & S102 content of 40-45% and a MgO Al 0 proportion between 0.8-1.2. It was found that the C-content in silicoc ome produced by the one-stage method was lower than when produced in two stages and that the increase in the carbides of silicate, moreover, raised the viscosity and th melting temperature of industrial slag. The experimental-results showed that vacuum treat- ment of a 400-kg heat of liquid ferrochromium in an-induction furnace in a vacuuld of 0.6-2.0 am Hg (80-270 n/u2) at 1670-1700C reducid the carbon content of the alloy from 0.05-0.07 to 0.01-0.02Z In 1 hr, and even lower with further treatment. The chromium tontent of the-'alloy was practically unchangedand the lose of ferro- chromium did not exceed 32. The power consumption for vacuum treatment was about. 500 kwh per ton of liquid . fairochromium, and the carbon, oxidation rate% was 0.0006 to 0.0009% C/mIn. In industrial-scale production, liquid ferrochromium can.be routed into a ladle from which, af t~~skg the metal is poured into the crucible L 39-92-66 ACC NRt AP5022354 -0 4-A-f-4- 4-- q%. -4 4. It is supposed that the inner zones are first hyper- trophied due to persistent TSH and ACTI1 production and then become insufficient. This lesion of the adrenal cortex Is reversible (ACTH and cortisone therapy). AU cases showed status thymico-lyniphaticus. On the basis of these findings ACTH- cortisone therapy is recommended in severe hyperthyroidism. Abstract: (Authors' Hungarian summary) A case of leptospirosis is reported which had the clinical appearance of Ideills disease, was presumably caused by L. Saxkoebing, was confirmed by serological and histological tests and resulted in the death of the patient because of renal Insufficiency. The importance of early treatment and of early diagnosis is pointed out and some diagnostic problems are discussed briefly. of interest in the case is the demonstration of numerous leptospirae in the organs by means of Levatidin's silver Impregnation method. 13 Eastern European. 5 Western references. Doklady AN S33R, 19571 Vol- 117Y Nr 4, PP- 586-5~8-(U^SSR) ABSTRACT: The authors here suggest a theory of plasticity of quasi- -isotropic bodies which is based on the following relations between the lastic deformations and tensions; d(fj-ii'jdf(Y5; sij-29(r)e~j, aij-dii-eii, a!j-Fij-(1/3)0ijs a d ,- 7 0 j L fa e'1/2)arjjj3Fjjg; r- V(1/2)Ep F_ a is denoted here as tensor o t e remanent t!Asii0As*an1ja is denoted as igry considered tensor of the active tensions. In the the hereq the stretching-strain.limit has the same form as in the theory of flow, but the center of the flow limit shifts according to the above-mentioned first equation. The following can be said with reapeot to the tensions Sig: A) They are equal to zero in the moment of the occurs ce of the first plastic deformations. B) They depend on the Card 1/3 plastic deformations according to the principle of elastic The Theory of Plasticity Which Takes Prestressing Into 20-4-U/52 Account interaction. C) Therefore they are conserved on the body also after removal of the stress. The authors then study a mechanic model in order to explain the relations proposed here. For the sake of simplicity and clearness the authors confine themselves to the consideration of a clear case in which only a xx and axx are different from zero. Up to now the influence of the mean normal stress on the criterion of flow was neglected. The complications occuring by taking account of this influence can be avoided analogously to the theory of flow. The most simple variant of the theory described here for which the following formulae hold, is remarkable- dEP -d' dk, %j-2goEjj; T ij In this case orT deni9tes t flow imit with simpfe tension and go signifies a constant which characterizes the solidification. The limit which separates the range of elastic deformations from the range of plastic deformations then in generally determined by the equation T - C, where C in the value of the intensity of the tangential stresses in a certain moment. If the given relation is appliedp then one obtains a plastic range, the limits of which are similarly en- larged in all directions, whereby, however, the form of the plastic range remains unaltered. But this contradicts to the observations. In the present paper it is tried to develop a plasticity theory in which the displacement of the center of the plastic deformation range is taken into accounts The deformation of the range itself is neglected in this`oasst since different other authors calculated this inflikenom and their results can be directly transferred to the present case too. TITLE Stability of cylindrical shells submerged in a liquid with short-period dynamic load.s PE'RIODICAL; Referativriyy zhurnal, Mekhanika, no. 11, 19 '6?~ 23, ab- stract 11B150 (Tr. Konferenteii po teorii plastin i obolochek, 1960, Kazan', 1961, 271-277) TEXT: The authors discuss the formulation of the problem of stabi- lity of thin elastic cylindrical shells subject to transverse dyna- mic load based on non-linear equations of.shallow shells in Lagran- ge's form. The initial sag and the sag-during loss of stability are represented in the form w Ji~ cos (vx1l) cos nT Card 112 7- S/124/62/000/011/006/017 Stability of cylindrical D234/D308 W = W0 + w I cos Wx1l) coa nT + w 2Cos, (T-X/l) where ww, W(p W11 w ura constant, x, are cylindrical coordinates, i 2 If 1 is the length of the - uliell , n 18 the number of -transverse waves. It is assumed that the shell is situated in an infinite liquid me- dium deacribed by linear relations. The,total pressure on the shell is in this case equal to tke pressure on an absolutely rigid cy- linder, added to the pressure due to interaction of the shell with the liquid, i.e. to deformation of the shell (radiation pressure). The latter is calculated in the paper of Yu. V. Goryainov, Yu. 1. Audashevich, I. L. Hironov (Trudy Konferentsii po teorii plastin obolochek, 1~,1060. Kazan', 1961, 137-141). The authors give a quali- ta-'Live analysis of the rusults of the solution of the equations of analog computers, when the pressure impulse varies in time from the Anitial value according to a linear law.
