1. Effective this date the Historical Staff is transferred from
the Office of the Assistant to the Director to the Office of the
'Director. The Staff will be responsible for consolidating the record
of the Central Intelligence Agency's role in the coordination of
United States intelligence activities as well as the record of the
Agency's independent operations, achievements, and functional develop-
ment.
2. Philip K. Edwards is appointed Chief, Historical Staff in
addition to his duties s Editor of "Studies in Intelligence."
is appointed to the Historical Staff.
3. All components'are requested to cooperate with Mr. Edwards
and the Staff by furniskling them the records which are essential to
historical studies, andjby making their knowledgeable people avail-
able for interview.
