On the basis of an analysis of serological findings from 336 samples of sera taken
from 190 patients. 29 patients were judged to have POMP (psittacosin-ornithosis-
marninallan pneurrionitis) virus infections, while 11 cases were considered actio-
logically doubtful, and 144 cases were Judged to be negative. The isolation of arni-
thosis virus from the pleural exudate of one patient, and from 3 apparently healthy
pigeons is reported. The clinical manifestations of the 29 positive cases are dis-

TITLE- Melting of high-strength steel in large-capacity furnaces

TEXT: To reveal the feasibility of producing high-strength steel in 500-
ton furnaces, experimental heats were made of 69 r 2 (OqG2), 19 r (19G) , _30 r 2
(30G2) and 10 XCHA (IOMi.SND) -steels. Comparative heats were carried -out in 250-
ton fuxmaces. The decarbonization rate was 0.26 - 0.3.3% carbon perhour in 250-
ton furnaces, and 1.4 times less in 500-ton furnaces; desulfurization rate was
0.003V per hour and 0.0027% per hour respectively, and the factor of sulfur dis-
tribution was 4.23 in 250-ton furnaces and 1.34 times less in.500-ton furnaces
The dephosphorization process was similar In both cases. The hydrogen content
varied during the melting process; low hydrogen content in the steel Is assured
by vigorous carbon oxidation prior to deoxidation. The content of non-metallic V,
impurities was somewhat lower in metals produced in 500-ton furnaces. ielatlve

Abstract: The synthetic protein fiber Ardil is manufactured
in three grades B, F and K. Ardil B is almost
neutral and can be dyed with acid-, chrome- and
some direct dyes, without preliminary neutraliza-
tion. Ardil F and K must be neutralized prior to
dyeing. This fiber is suitable for blending
with wool and other fibers.
