The generator considered consists of a pentode, a dl(,de, two
inductance coils, two capacitors and a parasitic capacitance. One
of the Inductances Is the deflection coil and this Is connected
across the diode. The cathode of the diode is connected it) the
anode of the pentode by means of the second coil which foxins th6
primary of the o.h.t. transformer; this coil is terminated with
capacitors at both ends. An equation for the current in the deflection
coil is derived under the assumption that both coUs are lusaless.
The equation Is used to plot the current during the return trace and
to determine the conditions far a non-osctllatmry~ linear forward
trace. The analyUcal results can be used in the design of actual
generators and are in good agreement wt!h experimental data.

TITLE: Transient Characteristics and Cross-talk in
Synchronous Detection of Quadrature-modulated Signals

TEXT: The article gives a theoretical analysis of the
relations obtaining in synchronous detection of quadrature-
modulated signals, as is the case for the colour sub-carrier
in colour television. The article assumes an ideal synchronous
detector, i.e. one which satisfies the laws of superposition,
whose response is proportional to the scalar product of the
input-signal vector and the reference-signal vector. It Is
further assumed that the bandpass filter at the input to the
detector and the low-pass filter at the output satisfy the
frequency relations shown in Fig. 2 (a) - ideallsed amplitude
and phase characteristic of the bandpass filter;

assumption is that the picture-carrier has a low depth of
modulation while the colour-carrier may have an arbitrary
depth of modulation. The low-pass analogy to the system is
shown in Fig. 3, where the two low-pass filters correspond to
the lower and upper sidebands of the bandpass filter. The
maximum cross-talk is found for arbitrary amplitude
characteristics of the filters. A check of the relationships
obtained is carried out by verifying the results presented

Abstract- FAuthors' Hungarian summary] The effect of trypsin and pancreatin
on the 113l-labelled thyroid-proteins of rats was studied. In an identical
medium, completely different results were obtained. The splitting ability of
pancreatin proved to be greater and this excess appeared in the thyroxine and
triiodothyronine fractions. The eventual importance of the quantitative ratio
of thyroid hormones which are bound in two different ways is discussed.

The authors suggest that Felty'a syndrome, Still's disease, Reiter's syndrome
and Sjilgren's disease have a common rheumatic aetiology. The variation in clinic-
al patterns is due to the different organs affected although in all instances the
pathological manifestations are localized in all cases to the mesenchyma. SjOgren's
disease is characterized by a decrease or absence of lacrimal and salivary secre-
tion with dryness of ocular and oral.mucosa. Chronic inflammation develops inthe
lacrimal and salivary glands as a result of functional deficiency. There may be
dryness of the skin and gastrointestinal symptoms with atrophy of the mucosa which
may be accompanied by hyperchromic anaemia. This disorder is found, most often
in postmenopausal women, and if it occurs prior to the menopause there is usually
detectable ovarian dysfunction. The onset of symptoms is usually preceded by
articular disease and Sj6gren found arthritis in 80% of his cases, affecting princip-
ally the larger joints. Two illustrative cases. one with autopsy findings is present-
ed. On the basis of histological studies it is concluded that Sjbgren's disease
develops on the basis of rheumatic allergic mesenchymal iesions.

A~&CT: In the case of butanol extraction and chromatographic separation from
KI or I 31-labelled tyrosinep or compounds with a thyronine skeleton, the particular
phase of the procedure at which a loss of iodine appears as well as the degree of
this loss have been determined. The investigations were carried out in aqueous
solutions and on materials mixed with serum for comparison. The problems and
questions-of composition of the thyroid hormones and precursors as well as of BII
have been mentioned briefly. Finally, the reliability of the isotope method
dascribed and the problem of its usefulness have been discussed. The authors
thank Laboratory Assistants Laszlo Cecilia and Doctor Baranvai Jozsefne for

ABSTRACT: In the course of the experiments, the analysis of the blood serum of
rats treated with labelling-amounts of 1131 are described. It is concluded that
there is a great difference between the amount of iodine-hormone fractions and the
total amount of serum organic iodine. It is discussed in detail and it has also
been proven by means of a mathematical method that the -results obtained with.the
active method can not be considered as analogous to those obtained with the inactive
method. The results obtained with active methods correspond to the true conditions
only approximately, partly because of their biological half-life and partly because
of various degrees of iodine losses occurring in the course of the determination
and explained by the instability of the iodine derivatives. The authors thank

Abstract: Authors compare two different methods of evaluating the chromatograms
of rat thyroid glands digested with pancreatin. kfter discussing their experi-
mental and mathematical results, authors come to the conclusion that although
the percentage distribution on the filter paper does contain data characteris-
tic of the thyroid function, this distribution must be supplemented by the
K constant, which may be calculated from the ratio of the weight of the
animal and the wei-ht of the thyroid gland. 14 References, of which 6 Hun-
