Oskar Lange - former Polish ambassador and
representative to UN - on 22 August 1951 wrote
to Mr. Mason - Commissioner on President's
Materials Policy Commission and Harvard professor
asking his views on proposed international
economic conference to be held in Moscow in late
1951.
Mason's reply indicates his belief that the
possibilities of such a conference are small
since it would be assumed in the U.S. that the
Russian and satellite delegates would not be
free to express individual opinions. Mason
suggests an intergovernmental conference on the
same topic and also exchange of scholars and
technically qualified individuals. Reply pre-
