ABSTRAM The authors present results of nondestructive measurements of the re-
sistivity gradient, the, diffusion length of the excess carriers, and the infrared
absorption of a semiconductor. A counm measurement setup was used, ccnsisting of a
neon-helium laser light souroe, an optical, system to produce an optical probe(ffdcxb--
scope), a sample holding and roving stage, radiation detectors (therywoouples), and
an electric detector far the sigials from the illumbiated saWle (potentiometer).
Measurements of the resistivity gradients by means of a laser light spat 3 v in di-

ference being made to an earlier article by one of the authors (Swiderski, with J. 1.

use of laserlight provides better hnW contrast and use of tenfold nkWdfication

ABSTRACT: Che e-nperiment- were carried out with n-type and p--uype
silicon and gold, aluminum and nickel with admixtures of antimony and
copper as t:ie fusion metals. The contacts were made from gallium-
zinc alloys and the point contacts from steel and tungsten. The
desired data were obtainecl by measuring the mechanical stresses, the
nonunif6rm, concent"ation of the excess carriers, the diffusion path L,
and the absorptiorl'coefficient 1c, The measurement results show that
1) at distances from the metal -semiconductor conta5t exceeding I mm
the mechanical stresses amount to 500 - 1500 kg/cm , 2) near the con-
tact the 3tresses multiply rapidly and exceed the value of 10,000 kg/am'!

and amounts to 8 c~.n- 100 cm- at a d1otance of 1.1,%A and to 16- pt

the results, concerning the effect of stresses on the alectric para-

Isotope Exchange of the Acetyl Groups in Penta-

PUB. Roczniki Chem, 32, 140 5, 1121-1125 (1958)
A'33TRACT The authors have investigated the conditions
under which an exchange of labeled acetyl groups
can take place in acyl monosaccharides in the
absence of a catalyst. When 0.5 M solutions of
acetylglucoses (AG) in glacial CH30400H are
heated (1181, 11 hrs), isotope exchange is ob-
served; the exchange does not affect the specific
rotation. The radioactivity of 16 -A(3 subjected
to isotope exchange is higher than that of X -
AG under the same conditions. Elimination of

Dried beer yeast deprived of its bitter content was hydrolysed with diluted hydro-
chloric acid at a temperature of 30-400 in the course of 24 hr. After the filtration
of the solid parts. the hydrolysald was concentrated under a decreased pressure
to a smal I volume ~ From the dense. syrup -like remains the formless sediment
was precipitated kith absolute alcohol. The sediment was dissolved in a small
quantity of distilled water and submitted to dialysis to separate it from inorganic
salts. From the dialysed solution the sediment was precipitated again with abso-
lute alcohol. This sediment administered per os in water solution lowered the
sugar level in the blood. (VI, 4)
